Job summary

Visionworks of America is seeking an EHS Specialist to provide internal consulting for site leaders, lab and warehouse managers, and retail operations. You will support comprehensive environmental, health and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company standards.

The role involves developing and enforcing safety policies, conducting training, and coordinating regulatory inspections.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in facility safety or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
  • Experience and knowledge of Federal, State OSHA and EPA regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine training needs, develop, organize and conduct training.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with senior leadership and large groups.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and enforcement of safety and environmental policies to meet regulations and EHS standards.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections and inquiries as a technical expert.
  • Assist in administering employee safety training programs and tracking participation.
  • Identify required controls and safety equipment via job hazard analysis to protect personnel.
  • Review chemical inventories and SDS library; oversee storage and disposal documentation.
  • Provide training on proper storage and disposal of chemical and waste streams.
  • Partner with HR to audit workplace records and maintain OSHA 300 logs.
  • Prepare and maintain regulatory permits and EHS programs as needed.

Job description

Summary

The EHS Specialist provides internal consulting expertise to site leaders, lab and warehouse managers, and retail operations support functions. Supports the administration of comprehensive environmental, health and safety programs to facilitate compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company environmental, health and safety standards.

Pay Class and Pay

Pay Class: Full Time

Pay: $62,671.63 - $83,562.17

Essential Responsibilities
  • Support development and enforcement of safety and environmental policies and procedures in accordance with all local, state, federal regulations and company EHS program requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and codes and acts as liaison to regulatory agency personnel during inspections and inquiries involving workplace health, safety and environmental issues; acts as a consultant/technical expert during resolution of any proposed corrective actions.
  • Assist in the administration of the employee safety training program, including developing and delivering training curricula and driving/tracking employee participation.
  • Through job hazard analysis, identifies the required controls and safety equipment to ensure that supported personnel have adequate protection from workplace hazards.
  • Review the inventory of chemicals and materials purchased for production, engineering and research and development, including the maintenance of the library of SDS’s.
  • Assist in the training of proper storage and documentation of chemical and waste stream disposal.
  • Partners with appropriate parties to oversee emergency response activities at designated locations.
  • Perform frequent site safety audits to identify non-conforming equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions to reduce risks to acceptable level and prevent injury. Conducts site assessments for compliance with local, state and federal regulations and company EHS standards.
  • Partner with Human Resources to audit the workplace records to ensure that training, auditing and recordkeeping methods are accurate and consistent, including accident review and OSHA 300 log posting and retention.
  • Facilitate company compliance with regulatory permits. Prepares applications, interprets regulations and maintains written EHS programs as necessary.
  • May provide 24-hour response to assist in the resolution of emergency or spill response incidents, which may include emergency travel to remote locations.
  • Provide technical training to appropriate individuals or groups on environmental, health and safety topics including "train the trainer" programs to enable onsite personnel with training responsibilities to communicate EHS information to others within their organizations, as needed.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding and working knowledge of existing and proposed changes in federal and state industrial hygiene, safety, and environmental regulations that affect operations.
Job Specifications
  • 4+ years of relevant experience including the organization/implementation of facility-wide safety programs or equivalent.
  • Moderate travel of up to 25% may be required.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
  • Possess experience and knowledge of Federal, State OSHA and EPA regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine training needs, develop, organize and conduct training.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with senior management and large employee groups.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, learning management systems and slide presentations required.
  • Excellent communication skills in a variety of medium (PowerPoint, written reports & memoranda, and verbal and MS Teams).
Education

Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or related field or equivalent experience
