Job summary

Element Solutions is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety and Sustainability leader to develop and sustain programs across Fremont, CA and the San Jose R&D facility. You will ensure regulatory compliance, manage ISO systems, and drive waste reduction and ESG initiatives.

The role requires 8–12 years of EH&S experience, Six Sigma/Lean, and certification readiness (HAZWOPER, DOT/IATA). Competitive base salary and full benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; 8–12 years related experience.
  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing certifications a plus.
  • Experience with capital projects from start to finish, including financials (NPV/IRR).
  • Experience managing risk to identify EH&S indicators across site personnel.
  • Experience with waste reduction and pollution abatement methodologies.
  • Experience creating KPI-based performance measurement to verify EH&S effectiveness.
  • Willingness to obtain 40 Hr HAZWOPER certification and DOT/IMDG/IATA HM certifications within 6 months.
  • CHMM certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, direct, and sustain all environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs for Fremont, CA, and San Jose research facility.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintain ISO 14001/45001 systems.
  • Lead training, audits, and management reviews; report risks and opportunities to upper management.
  • Oversee PPE management and safety equipment for personnel.
  • Support permit acquisition and collaboration with external partners; manage KPIs and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement and waste reduction initiatives across facilities.
  • Champion change management and ESG-related initiatives to support growth.

Who are we looking for?

The purpose of this position is to effectively and proactively develop, direct, manage and sustain all environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs, including responsibilities for regulatory affairs that arise from environmental, health and safety and product liability issues for the Fremont, CA, West Haven site and the research and development facility located in San Jose CA.

What will you be doing?
  • Ensure compliance with all federal (RCRA, OSHA, CERCLA, SARA, TSCA, DOT, NPDES, SPCC, PSM), state (hazardous, residual and municipal waste, Clean Water Act; Clean Air Act, Tank Regulations) and local laws (Emergency Planning; Fire Protection) in order to eliminate or reduce losses.
  • Maintain facility in EHS audit ready condition.
  • Oversee and maintain ISO 14001 and 45001 Management Systems, including the development of safety and environmental objectives and targets.
  • Develop/maintain written procedures/programs designed to maintain compliance with the ISO 14001 and 45001 Management Systems, including certification audits.
  • Conduct and lead the Environmental Management Review Meeting to maintain ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications.
  • Manage and oversee all Health & Safety functions and assist HR in the management of Workers Compensation
  • Support acquisition of permits from regulatory agencies including but not limited to the local City, Air Quality agency etc. by collaborating with external technical partners.
  • Institute and supervise necessary permitting, monitoring, data gathering and reporting to government agencies.
  • Perform or arrange for all training and inspection/audit programs to be done with respect to Environmental, Health and Safety and Security.
  • Appraise upper management of all significant Environmental, Health, and Safety issues.
  • Manages all PPE requirements, including but not limited to, employee uniforms.
  • Drive positive results for manufacturing and R&D facilities in environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability management.
  • Effectively champion change management initiatives to sustain new processes that contribute to the growth and durability of the operations, including PSM for new processes.
  • Create and champion recycling initiatives that results in waste reductions, including experience in ESG.
Who are You?
  • Must have Bachelor\'s degree (B. S.); eight to twelve years related experienceand/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have knowledge in and a drive for continuous improvement. Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing certifications, a plus.
  • Experience working with capital projects from start-to-finish, including financial responsibility, project justification (NPV & IRR), and ownership.
  • Experience managing risk to identify leading EH&S indicators, including participation from all site personnel.
  • Experienced with waste reduction and pollution abatement methodologies.
  • Experience creating and managing performance measurement process (KPI\'s) to verify EH&S effectiveness, including championing facility collaboration in EH&S management best practices to reduce the silo effect.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a 40 Hr HAZWOPER certification and Incident Command training within the first 6 months of employment
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a DOT, IMDG & IATA Hazardous Materials transportation certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • CHMM certification a plus.
  • Experience managing vendors and contractors to ensure efficacy.

The typical base salary range for this position is between $128,636.00 and $192,954.00
