Job summary

MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions, a segment of Element Solutions Inc., seeks an experienced EHS leader to drive environmental, health and safety and sustainability programs at Fremont, CA and the San Jose R&D facility.

You will ensure compliance with RCRA, OSHA, TSCA and other regulations; maintain ISO 14001/45001; develop procedures; lead audits and training; and push improvements in safety, waste reduction, and ESG initiatives across manufacturing and R&D operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8–12 years of related experience
  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing certifications are a plus
  • Experience with capital projects from start-to-finish including financials (NPV/IRR) and ownership
  • Experience managing risk to identify EH&S indicators and KPI-based performance
  • Experience with waste reduction and pollution abatement methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety laws and regulations
  • Maintain EHS audits and ISO 14001/45001 management systems
  • Develop and maintain procedures to support ISO certifications and audits
  • Lead Environmental Management Review Meetings and certification processes
  • Manage Health & Safety functions and Workers Compensation
  • Assist HR with regulatory permits and collaborate with external partners
  • Institute permitting, monitoring, data gathering and reporting to agencies
  • Coordinate training and inspection programs for EHS and security
  • Report significant EH&S issues to upper management
  • Oversee PPE management and site-wide safety initiatives
  • Drive ESG-related recycling and sustainability initiatives

Who are we looking for?

The purpose of this position is to effectively and proactively develop, direct, manage and sustain all environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs, including responsibilities for regulatory affairs that arise from environmental, health and safety and product liability issues for the Fremont, CA, West Haven site and the research and development facility located in San Jose CA.

What will you be doing?
  • Ensure compliance with all federal (RCRA, OSHA, CERCLA, SARA, TSCA, DOT, NPDES, SPCC, PSM), state (hazardous, residual and municipal waste, Clean Water Act; Clean Air Act, Tank Regulations) and local laws (Emergency Planning; Fire Protection) in order to eliminate or reduce losses.
  • Maintain facility in EHS audit ready condition.
  • Oversee and maintain ISO 14001 and 45001 Management Systems, including the development of safety and environmental objectives and targets.
  • Develop/maintain written procedures/programs designed to maintain compliance with the ISO 14001 and 45001 Management Systems, including certification audits.
  • Conduct and lead the Environmental Management Review Meeting to maintain ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications.
  • Manage and oversee all Health & Safety functions and assist HR in the management of Workers Compensation.
  • Support acquisition of permits from regulatory agencies including but not limited to the local City, Air Quality agency etc. by collaborating with external technical partners.
  • Institute and supervise necessary permitting, monitoring, data gathering and reporting to government agencies.
  • Perform or arrange for all training and inspection/audit programs to be done with respect to Environmental, Health and Safety and Security.
  • Appraise upper management of all significant Environmental, Health, and Safety issues.
  • Manages all PPE requirements, including but not limited to employee uniforms.
  • Drive positive results for manufacturing and R&D facilities in environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability management.
  • Effectively champion change management initiatives to sustain new processes that contribute to the growth and durability of the operations, including PSM for new processes.
  • Create and champion recycling initiatives that results in waste reductions, including experience in ESG.
Who are You?
  • Must have Bachelor's degree (B. S.); eight to twelve years related experienceand/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have knowledge in and a drive for continuous improvement. Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing certifications, a plus.
  • Experience working with capital projects from start-to-finish, including financial responsibility, project justification (NPV & IRR), and ownership.
  • Experience managing risk to identify leading EH&S indicators, including participation from all site personnel.
  • Experienced with waste reduction and pollution abatement methodologies.
  • Experience creating and managing performance measurement process (KPI’s) to verify EH&S effectiveness, including championing facility collaboration in EH&S management best practices to reduce the silo effect.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a 40 Hr HAZWOPER certification and Incident Command training within the first 6 months of employment
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a DOT, IMDG & IATA Hazardous Materials transportation certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • CHMM certification a plus.
  • Experience managing vendors and contractors to ensure efficacy.

The typical base salary range for this position is between $128,636.00 and $192,954.00
