Job summary

Children's Health in Dallas seeks a Sr Director of Quality Improvement to provide strategic direction for the enterprise quality program. Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for enterprise-wide quality improvement and implement continuous improvement culture.
• Lead clinical performance improvement programs with annual plans aligned to standards.
• Oversee hospital quality programs, committees, dashboards and annual plans.
• Oversee quality data capture, trending and dissemination to clinical leaders.
• Partner with physician and clinical leaders to identify improvement opportunities and oversee initiatives.

About the Opportunity

The Sr Director Quality Improvement provides strategic direction and oversight of the enterprise Quality program for Children's Health System of Texas (CHST). This highly visible leadership role oversees quality assurance, clinical performance improvement, and clinical effectiveness, with a focus on delivering exceptional, reliable, evidence-based and equitable care across CHST.This leader will work closely with clinical, physician, operational and executive leaders to strengthen quality improvement capabilities, advance enterprise-wide improvement initiatives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety, the Sr Director also has matrix reporting to the Chief Quality Officer of CHST and directs the operations of the system Quality department.This is an opportunity to lead quality improvement at an enterprise level and have a meaningful impact on the care and outcomes of children across a large and complex health system.

What You'll Do

• Provide strategic leadership for enterprise-wide quality improvement and implement strategies that promote a culture of continuous improvement.
• Lead and oversee the CHST clinical performance improvement program, including collaboration with campus executives to establish annual clinical performance improvement plans aligned with The Joint Commission performance improvement standards.
• Oversee the advancement and maturation of individual hospital quality programs, including committee structures, dashboards and annual plans.
• Oversee enterprise quality outcome data capture and trending and ensure data and analysis are effectively disseminated to clinical leaders.
• Partner with physician and clinical leaders to identify improvement opportunities and oversee or support initiatives designed to address them.
• Prioritize and oversee organizational participation in regional and national collaboratives such as Solutions for Patient Safety, Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Children's Hospital Association.
• Collaborate with physician leaders, nurses, informatics and data analytics teams to develop and implement evidence-based clinical pathways that decrease unwanted variation in practice.
• Oversee the operations of the Quality department, including fiscal and human resources.
• Partner with Health Equity leadership to track health equity quality outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement across CHST.
• Present at quality and patient safety committee meetings and prepare routine quality reports for executive leaders and/or board members.
• Participate in regulatory visits and development of corrective action plan submissions related to quality, performance improvement and infection prevention for The Joint Commission, CMS, Texas Department of Health and Human Services, FDA and other accrediting bodies.

• Build strong, proactive relationships across clinical, operational and executive leadership.
• Effectively coach and develop the Quality team and strengthen organizational improvement capabilities.
• Effectively communicate quality performance, priorities and recommendations to executive leadership and board-level audiences.

Qualifications

Work Experience

• At least 10 years Working in quality and patient safety in an acute care setting - required
• At least 7 years Clinical experience in a healthcare environment- required
• At least 5 years of experience in healthcare and/or clinical leadership- required
• At least 5 years of Quality/Process Improvement within the Health Care Industry- required
• At least 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary (RN, MD, pharmacists, RT, etc.) improvement work - required

Education

• Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience BSN- required
• Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience - required

Licenses and Certifications

• License to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas Upon Hire - required
• CPHQ 1 Year - required

• Demonstrated experience leading quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in a complex healthcare environment.
• Strong leadership and coaching capabilities, with the ability to develop teams and create a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• The ability to proactively build relationships and influence physicians, nurses, operational leaders and executives.
• Strong executive communication skills and confidence presenting high-priority quality initiatives, performance and recommendations to senior leadership and board-level audiences.
• Experience within a larger hospital or health system is important. Pediatric healthcare experience is not required; candidates with strong experience in adult healthcare systems may also be considered.
• Candidates with a background in nursing or operational leadership who have developed significant quality improvement expertise may be particularly well suited for this opportunity.
