Job summary

Clayco is seeking a Director of Web and Digital Strategy to lead and execute the enterprise digital roadmap across all company websites and social channels. The role combines hands-on WordPress development with strategic leadership, aligning content, technology, and analytics to preserve each unit’s brand.

The Role We Want You For

The Director of Web and Digital Strategy is a hands-on technical leader who helps shape and execute the enterprise digital strategy in partnership with Marketing and Communications leadership. This role leads the roadmap for all Clayco enterprise companies’ websites and social media channels while personally developing, maintaining, and improving web platforms. The director connects business priorities, audience needs, content, and technology to deliver a coordinated digital presence that preserves each company’s distinct brand.

Partners with Marketing and Communications leadership on overall direction and with each enterprise company on its needs. Owns technical delivery and team prioritization; the analytics manager owns search and measurement, and the coordinator supports content, graphics, and publishing. Coordinates sensitive messaging with communications leadership.

The Specifics of the Role

Digital strategy and team leadership

• Develop an enterprise digital roadmap with business unit partners, aligning website and social priorities with brand awareness, recruitment, business development, and communications goals.
• Set priorities, workflows, publishing standards, and quality expectations for the digital team; coach the analytics manager and junior content coordinator.
• Guide social channel strategy and the shared editorial planning process with communications leaders, including audiences, formats, campaign integration, and approval and escalation practices.
• Recommend digital budgets, tools, and vendor support; manage scope, schedules, and delivery for redesigns, integrations, and other digital initiatives.

Hands-on web development and operations

• Personally build, customize, troubleshoot, and maintain WordPress sites, themes, templates, landing pages, and integrations across the enterprise.
• Use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant WordPress development skills to improve responsive design, navigation, functionality, accessibility, and site performance.
• Manage staging, testing, deployment, technical documentation, and platform maintenance; coordinate hosting, backups, access, security, and recovery with IT and vendors.
• Implement integrations with content, asset, analytics, and other business systems, partnering with IT on architecture and data handling.

Continuous improvement and governance

• Implement technical SEO and measurement improvements identified with the Digital Search and Analytics Manager; use reporting and audience feedback to prioritize enhancements.
• Maintain brand and publishing standards across websites and social accounts; evaluate new digital and AI capabilities through focused pilots and clear success criteria.

Requirements

• Typically 8+ years of progressive web and digital experience.
• Including hands-on WordPress development and strategy or team leadership.
• Strong HTML, CSS, JavaScript, integration, and troubleshooting skills.
• Working knowledge of PHP, hosting, technical SEO, analytics, accessibility, and social strategy.
• Relevant degree or equivalent experience, with a portfolio demonstrating technical delivery and business outcomes.

• The salary range for this position considers a wide range of factors in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: Education, qualifications, skills, training, experience, certifications, internal equity, and location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The Clayco Nationwide salary range for this position is approximately $130,000 - $180,000 +/- annually (not adjusted for location).
