Job summary

LHH is seeking a Senior Director, Investments & Underwriting to lead underwriting for acquisitions, developments, recapitalizations, and portfolio opportunities across its real estate platform. This highly visible role blends strategic decision-making with hands-on modeling and investment committee preparation.

The candidate will establish underwriting standards, develop best practices, and collaborate with senior leadership to drive growth and disciplined capital allocation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years real estate investment and underwriting experience.
• Experience with complex capital structures.
• Strong financial modeling and Excel expertise.
• Experience presenting investment recommendations to senior leadership.
• Entrepreneurial mindset; able to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting for acquisitions, developments, recapitalizations, joint ventures, structured investments, and portfolio transactions.
• Build and maintain sophisticated financial models evaluating returns, cash flow, financing structures, and downside scenarios.
• Analyze and recommend investment structures, capital strategies, and risk mitigation.
• Evaluate market fundamentals, sponsor quality, tenant/counterparty credit, and other key factors.
• Prepare investment committee materials, analyses, and recommendations for senior leadership.
• Support due diligence, financing analyses, and transaction execution.
• Develop underwriting templates, modeling standards, and investment processes.
• Collaborate with investment, asset management, development, and executive teams on strategic initiatives.
• Assist with portfolio-level analyses and platform-wide modeling.

Our client is a growing real estate investment and operating platform seeking a Senior Director, Investments & Underwriting to play a key role in evaluating acquisitions, developments, recapitalizations, structured investments, and portfolio-level opportunities across a diverse real estate platform.

This is a highly visible opportunity for an experienced real estate investment professional who enjoys both strategic decision-making and hands-on underwriting. The successful candidate will serve as a critical member of the investment team, helping drive investment decisions while establishing underwriting standards and best practices that support future growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting efforts for acquisitions, developments, recapitalizations, joint ventures, structured investments, and portfolio transactions.
• Build and maintain sophisticated financial models evaluating investment returns, cash flow projections, financing structures, and downside scenarios.
• Analyze and recommend investment structures, capital strategies, and risk mitigation approaches.
• Evaluate market fundamentals, sponsor quality, tenant and counterparty credit, and other key investment considerations.
• Prepare investment committee materials, financial analyses, and investment recommendations for senior leadership.
• Support due diligence, financing analyses, and transaction execution activities.
• Develop and enhance underwriting templates, modeling standards, and investment processes.
• Collaborate with investment, asset management, development, and executive leadership teams on strategic initiatives and active opportunities.
• Assist with portfolio-level analyses and investment vehicle modeling as the platform continues to expand.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
• 8+ years of real estate investment, acquisitions, underwriting, development, private equity, or institutional asset management experience.
• Background with a real estate private equity firm, institutional investment manager, REIT, insurance investment platform, owner/developer, or similar principal investing organization.
• Demonstrated experience underwriting commercial real estate investments and complex capital structures.
• Advanced financial modeling capabilities with expert-level Excel proficiency.
• Strong understanding of debt, equity, joint venture, waterfall, and structured capital investments.
• Experience presenting investment recommendations to senior leadership and/or investment committees.
• Ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with development underwriting and portfolio-level analysis.
• Exposure to institutional capital structures, fund vehicles, or multi-asset investment platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations.
