Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Operations, Technology, or related field; MBA strongly preferred.
  • Significant experience at the Director level or above in management consulting or internal strategy.
  • Experience leading multi-workstream operating model transformations in global, matrixed organizations.
  • Experience in professional services, insurance, or financial services is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end operating model transformation across units, regions, and functions.

Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Director of Internal Consulting to lead central initiatives for Aon. The role starts with building and carrying out a multi-year strategic overhaul of our Operating Model. Reporting to the leadership team of Aon Business Services (ABS), this role leads internal consulting and program management teams. It involves crafting, orchestrating, and scaling the transformation of the enterprise operating model at Aon. The goal is to improve how we deliver value to clients, colleagues, and other interested parties. This role will engage with senior leaders across Solution Lines, Regions, and Functions. It will also lead a cross‑functional group of internal advisors, project managers, and subject matter experts to deliver measurable performance outcomes.

This role is open to a Virtual or Hybrid colleague based in Central or Eastern Time Zone.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision
  • Partner with ABS leadership as well as business leaders, key collaborators, and cross-functional partners to advance the vision, objectives, and scope related to operating model transformation efforts
  • Translate strategic priorities into a clear transformation roadmap with defined business outcomes, benchmarks, and value realization targets
  • Apply structured consulting methodologies (e.g., problem framing, analytical reasoning, benchmarking, argument development) to advise recommendations
  • Develop and validate arguments for operating model changes, including financial, operational, and qualitative benefits
Operating Model Design & Alignment
  • Lead the end‑to‑end diagnostic, build and transition of the target operating model across Aon’s Business Units, geographic areas, and departments
  • Translate enterprise strategy into detailed organizational framework components, including capabilities, organizational structure, roles and responsibilities, governance models, and cross functional interaction patterns
  • Be responsible for phased implementation, including pilots, scaling strategies, and stabilization, ensuring alignment with regional and solution line needs
  • Build and maintain operating model blueprints, ensuring all components (capability models, interaction models, RACIs, team structures, decision rights, important metrics) integrate across the enterprise
Stakeholder Engagement & Program Leadership
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior executives. Provide insight on opportunities, trade‑offs, and risks related to the operating model. Ensure agreement and engagement in strategy and roadmap.
  • Shape and deliver a compelling change narrative that articulates the “why,” “what,” and “how” of the transformation for different audiences
  • Work closely with executive sponsors and the PMO to establish and maintain robust governance, decision‑making, and blocking issue mechanisms
  • Partner with Change & Communications teams to define implications of design changes, highlight required behavior shifts, and identify points of resistance or adoption needs
  • Facilitate executive and working‑level forums to align decisions, resolve conflicts, and maintain momentum
People Leadership & Capability Building
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a high‑performing team members with capabilities in strategy, transformation, operations, change, and analytics
  • Lead a team of internal consultants and business analysts to diagnose current‑state challenges, define solutions, and support implementation
  • Build consulting capabilities within the broader organization by sharing methodologies, tools, and guidelines
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Bring together and embed lessons learned into subsequent waves of organizational build changes
Skills and experience that will lead to success

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Operations, Technology, or related field; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Proven experience in management consulting, internal strategy/consulting or equivalent internal consulting function, including significant experience at the Director level or above
  • Demonstrated experience leading sophisticated, multi‑workstream operating model or large‑scale transformation programs in a global, matrixed organization, including design, process transition and governance framework setup
  • Experience working in or with professional services, insurance, or financial services environments is highly desirable
Skills & Competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to build and coach high‑performing, complementary teams and work effectively across cultures and geographies
  • Ability to operate as a generalist across strategy development, organizational framework building, and execution support
  • Ability to roll up the sleeves and problem solve
  • Strong strategic and conceptual abilities; able to connect enterprise strategy to detailed building and implementation
  • Expertise in building operating frameworks, process re‑engineering, and organizational development
  • Excellent collaborator management and influencing skills, including experience engaging C‑suite and senior executives
  • Outstanding ability to present complex topics clearly and build engaging narratives and materials
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities; comfortable with data, financial modeling, and performance metrics
  • Growth mindset toward emerging technologies, with the ability to incorporate AI into daily work and support others in embracing new digital tools with confidence and ease. Proficiency in MS

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $225,000 to $275,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans in addition to base salary. The amount of any incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
