Job summary

Flex is seeking a Sr. Director, Engineering to lead day-to-day operations and core functions of operations in Austin, TX. Reporting to the SVP, Operations, this role drives production excellence, cost management, and cross-functional alignment to meet strategic goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; an MBA is preferred.
• 10–15 years of industry experience, with 3–5 years in a Director of Production and Operations role.
• Extensive experience overseeing operations across all three shifts.
• Strong background in P&L management and financial acumen.
• Experience in assembly processes and automation systems.
• Experience with high/low-volume production and high/low-mix environments.
• Ability to influence senior leadership and key clients.
• Hands-on NPI experience from concept to delivery.

Responsibilities

• Guarantee production, delivery in full, on time and in specifications, at optimal cost.
• Define operational financial goals.
• Manage staff and P&L with a proven track record.
• Set Business Unit goals and assignments.
• Define and execute operational programs aligned with plans and goals.
• Meet monthly with Executive Business and review KOI's.
• Attend quarterly business reviews with key customers.
• Partner with other business units to set strategic plans and goals.
• Direct activities in purchasing, production control, planning, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, maintenance, manufacturing and logistics.
• Implement HR strategies to recruit and retain a qualified workforce.

Reporting to the SVP, Operations, the Sr. Director, Engineering who is in charge of managing day-to-day operations and core functions of operations to achieve and maintain operational excellence.

What a typical day looks like:

• Guarantee production, delivery in full, on time and in specifications, required by customers, at the most cutthroat cost.
• Define operational financial goals.
• Operational business experience including a successful performance track record managing staff and P&L.
• Establish and communicate Business Unit goals and assignments.
• Define and execute operational programs in line with strategic plans and annual operating goals.
• Meet with Executive Business at least monthly to review and evaluate KOI's.
• Attend quarterly business reviews with key customers.
• Partner with other business to establish strategic plans and goals.
• Direct and control the activities on purchasing business, production control, planning, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, maintenance, manufacturing and logistics.
• Implement appropriate HR strategies and actions to recruit and retain a qualified and motivated workforce.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; an MBA is preferred.
• 10 -15 years of industry experience, with at least 3 -5 years in a Director of Production and Operations role.
• Extensive experience overseeing operations across all three shifts.
• Strong background in P&L management, with demonstrated financial acumen.
• Extensive experience in assembly processes, and automation systems.
• Expertise in managing high- and low-volume production and high- and low-mix product environments.
• Ability to effectively influence senior leadership, executives, and key clients.
• Hands-on experience with NPI (New Product Introduction), guiding new customer programs from concept through successful execution and delivery.
• Strong sales development capabilities and excellent operational and financial management skills.
• Client-focused with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively to meet technical and operational needs.
• Extensive experience in expansion and ramping up.
