Job description

The client is seeking a future-forward, execution-strong Sr. Director of Digital Engineering to lead the Transact & Retain value stream across its digital portfolio. This role owns engineering strategy and delivery for revenue-critical digital experiences, including cart, checkout, account management, order history, returns, and core commerce platforms. The Sr. Director will drive modernization of the commerce stack, strengthen transaction reliability and performance, and enable scalable multi-brand capabilities that support revenue growth and customer retention.

Key responsibilities include defining and executing roadmaps for lower-funnel digital experiences across brands, modernizing legacy commerce components into composable, API-first architectures, and establishing foundations for composable commerce, event-driven architecture, and modern data platforms. The role will also optimize checkout conversion and reduce abandonment, improve shipping, loyalty and payment orchestration, and enhance speed and transaction success rates. Additional duties include partnering with product and UX to improve engagement, search relevance, and conversion metrics, integrating with related digital value streams, and championing accessibility as a core design principle.

The Sr. Director will lead and scale high-performance global engineering teams by attracting, developing, and retaining talent and guiding cross-functional product engineering squads with clear ownership and accountability. The role includes embedding modern engineering practices and governance such as AI, DevSecOps, CI/CD, test automation, and SRE best practices, coaching engineering leadership to deliver with speed and quality, and improving engineering performance through metrics such as DORA indicators while reducing technical debt. As a hands-on technical leader and architecture coach, the Sr. Director will actively contribute to architecture and design decisions, mentor senior engineers, and partner across product, data, infrastructure, and business teams to translate strategic goals into scalable technical capabilities while strengthening platform reliability, security, and observability.
