Job summary

USMD Hospital at Arlington, LP seeks an experienced Nursing Director to lead the Operating Room, Day Surgery, Pre-assessment, PACU, and Sterile Processing. You will align departmental goals with hospital bylaws and regulatory bodies while ensuring safe, efficient perioperative operations.

The role requires BSN with Texas RN licensure and 5–7 years OR experience plus 5–10 years in leadership, with BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications. Strong budget and staff management skills are essential.

Job Purpose

Provide leadership to the department of Operating Room, Day Surgery, Pre-assessment, Post-anesthesia Care Unit, Sterile Processing, in accordance with the bylaws of the hospital and the bylaws, rules, and regulations of its medical staff, departments, and committees, and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and accrediting bodies.

Education & Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of nursing required. MSN/MHA/MBA Preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Current RN Licensure, either Texas or Compact is required. BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required.

Work Experience:

5-7 years of Operating Room experience required in hospital setting, 5-10 years management/leadership experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and monitors departmental budgets. Oversees/provides for staffing plans / schedules; compliance with productivity targets.
• Identifies opportunities for departmental improvements and implements appropriate action plans to optimize department outcomes.
• Provides departmental needs assessment; identifies goals, develops and implements action plans in order to achieve objectives.
• Develops, revises and maintains departmental policies and procedures as indicated.
• Promotes and maintains positive relations with continuum of care providers.
• Serve as medical staff liaison with hospital administration on matters related to Peri-Op.
• Provide medical staff leadership in the development of the Peri-Op service in terms of scale and scope.
• Lead the initiative to implement a strategic plan for the future direction of Peri-Operative services in collaboration with nursing leadership and hospital administration.
• Lead the performance improvement activities within the department and serve as department representative on interdisciplinary teams.
• Represent the department in medical staff committees and represent the hospital as requested by the executive vice president/chief nursing officer (or her designee) to convey the interests of the department.
• Evaluates work performance of Peri-Operative employees and makes decisions for hiring, promotions, demotions, transfers, and other personnel actions including disciplinary action and suspensions.
• Ensures the operating room suites function smoothly with adherence to timeliness and other established standards.
• Participates in the utilization review process by manager involvement in the collection and analysis of data related to surgical care.
• Convenes regular departmental meetings where substantial issues are considered, and uses the forum to build consensus and agreement around departmental directions and strategies.
• Attends all meetings and trainings as required.
• Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.
• Attends all required department-specific education and training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.
• Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
• Wears proper identification while on duty.
