Job description

Job Title

Sr. DevOps Engineer

CTAC is seeking DevOps Engineers and Site Reliability Engineers to support one of our government contracts by ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems. The intent of this role is to work as a Site Reliability Engineer treating operations issues as software issues, primarily focused on creating automations to handle issues, and falling back to runbooks or documentation as necessary.

This role focuses on working within a team of engineers supporting a variety of applications that range from on-premises, cloud, and platform-as-a-service offerings. Individuals hired for this position will work as part of a cross‑functional team supporting project teams associated with individual applications and groups of applications.

Primary responsibilities will include configuration and management of application monitoring, logging, and CI/CD systems. Additional tasks will include supporting compliance and maintenance of these applications as extension of application project teams. These tasks will be performed across a variety of technologies and tooling, with a primary focus on AWS cloud hosted applications or migration to AWS cloud, while maintaining systems on‑premises as necessary.

This position is hybrid in‑person and remote‑work with in‑person effort expected up to three days a week as part of team work days, planning, and prioritizing a backlog of tasks. Job location is primarily in Northern Virginia, with potential travel to client sites (Washington DC).

Key Responsibilities
  • Support operations and maintenance of applications running on‑premises and in the cloud.
  • Develop automated tooling and scripts to assist in reduction of manual effort in support of applications.
  • Contribute back to project software to improve processes, reduce technical debt, and/or increase visibility and monitoring.
  • Assist in debugging of applications, databases, and middleware across technologies, utilizing AI agents and code tooling to assist.
  • Configure monitoring, alerting, and notification tooling supporting cloud and on‑premises applications.
  • Develop cloud‑first applications, infrastructure as code, and tooling to improve business processes and/or reduce operations and maintenance efforts.
  • Support and maintain Identity Management Systems at federal client (Okta-based).
Job Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in development and operations work, preferably supporting government systems
  • Strong experience in at least one programming language, preference for comfort in a variety of scripting, interpreted, and/or compiled languages
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with tools for vulnerability scanning, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Ability to document technical processes and architectures clearly.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience managing Linux and Windows servers in a hybrid environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using AI tools to shorten development cycles and reference issues and solutions
  • AWS Cloud Certifications or similar
  • Experience with database management systems, such as: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Sybase, etc

Clearance Required: Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
