Job summary

Waltech is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead Kubernetes-based deployments across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. The role is based in the Boston area or remote within the East Coast, with no visa sponsorship.

You will build and maintain Kubernetes clusters, streamline CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate with development teams to deliver scalable, automated infrastructure across multiple cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Expert level understanding of complex Kubernetes apps in at least one Kubernetes-based platform.
• Production experience in large environments using automation and configuration management tools like Terraform, Ansible or CloudFormation.
• 5+ years of software development or advanced system administration in open source technologies.
• 3+ years of providing technical guidance to other engineers.
• 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• 2+ years hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud and virtualization platforms.
• 2+ years hands-on experience on Kubernetes-based container platforms (OpenShift, EKS).
• Expert level experience with Terraform, CloudFormation and Helm.
• Knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS) with a focus on web servers (Apache or Nginx).
• 2+ years of experience maintaining open source databases.
• Great interpersonal skills, teamwork, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy, and maintain Kubernetes clusters and troubleshoot issues.
• Develop components for a Kubernetes service.
• Collaborate with development teams on CI/CD for Kubernetes deployments and other pipelines.
• Utilize Git, HashiCorp toolset, Helm, Puppet, Jenkins, Docker EE, OpenShift, ELK Stack, and related technologies.
• Develop automation strategies for public data center stacks (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Participate in planning, code/architecture reviews, pipeline automation, and documentation.
• Create/update tickets and docs using Jira and Confluence.
• Support developers in delivering scalable solutions.

The Senior DevOps Engineer will be based in the United States (Boston-area or remote) to provide Kubernetes matter expertise for our AWS, Azure and Google Cloud deployments by providing monitoring and production support for the Kubernetes clusters.

What you will do

• Building, deploying and maintaining Kubernetes clusters, as well as debugging issues
• Building components for a Kubernetes service
• Work with the development teams on the CI/CD process related to Kubernetes deployments and other CI/CD pipelines
• Using the technologies such as Git, Hashicorp tool sets, Helm, Puppet, Jenkins, Docker EE, Openshift, ELK Stack and many other DevOps related technologies
• Cooperate in developing automation strategies for Public data center stacks (Hyperconverged/Traditional architectures, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
• Participating in team activities - operational and strategic planning and prioritization, code and architecture reviewing, pipeline and automation development, documenting delivered code
• Creating and updating tickets and documentation using tools such as Jira and Confluence
• Supporting a team of developers in delivering scalable solutions

Requirements

• Expert level of understanding of complex K8s applications in at least one of the Kubernetes based Container Platforms (Openshift, EKS, GKE, Anthos or Tanzu)
• Production experience in large environments using automation and configuration management tools like Terraform, Ansible or CFT
• 5+ years of software development or advanced system administration in open source technologies
• 3+ years of providing technical guidance to other engineers
• 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines
• 2+ years hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud and virtualization platforms
• 2+ years hands-on experience on kubernetes based container platforms (i.e., Openshift, EKS)
• Expert level experience with Terraform, Cloudformation and Helm
• Knowledge of Linux, including Ubuntu, RHEL, or CentOS with a focus on web, including Apache or Nginx
