About the role:

The Becton Dickinson Software Technology Solutions Division (STS) seeks a hands-on Sr. Engineering Manager focused on building and maintaining a Clinical Interface Engine. This position requires an enthusiastic leader with a mix of intelligence, integrity, and technical skill to build a team through mentoring, hiring, and solving challenging technical problems. This highly collaborative role will partner with and advise multiple teams by guiding the creation and consumption of clinical data.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of a scalable, high-performance Health data interface engine.
  • Create clear and well-thought-out technical design artifacts considering system dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability, and supportability.
  • Partner with Architecture, PM, DevOps, and stakeholders to guide the strategic roadmap and ensure alignment with the overall program vision.
  • Develop and implement performance metrics to monitor and improve high-volume HL7 v2 interfaces.
  • Apply software engineering best practices (version control, continuous integration, etc.) across the codebase.
  • Work with program management to establish delivery milestones and manage engineering risks.
  • Facilitate decisions on scope, task duration, and design requirements.
  • Attract, develop, and retain BD associates.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure shared understanding of complex topics.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives across the department.

Experience Required:

  • 10+ years in Health Technology Environment, with success in developing and maintaining scalable, high-volume data interfaces, including 3+ years in a Cloud environment.
  • Minimum of 5+ years leading teams and managing direct reports.
  • Strong knowledge of HL7 interface engines like Iguana, Intersystem.
  • Experience with HL7 FHIR, HL7 CDA, HL7 v2 development.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and serverless technologies.
  • Experience leading change in modern software practices and continuous delivery.
  • Designing systems with observability for anomaly detection and performance issues.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture and design.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Programming experience in Golang, Python, Java.
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Positive work ethic and commitment to project goals.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

BD prioritizes on-site collaboration with a minimum of 4 days in-office per week, though flexibility exists for remote roles. Employment may require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or testing, in accordance with company policies.

BD offers competitive compensation and benefits, with salary ranges from $155,200 to $256,000 annually, based on experience and location.
