Job summary

Tractor Supply Company is seeking an experienced software professional to design, develop, and support software running on various platforms used in Tractor Supply stores. You will gather requirements, help set project scope, and work with technical leads, architects, and vendor partners to ensure solutions meet business needs.

The role involves developing, configuring, and testing software, mentoring teammates, and providing training materials to business users.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college or university.
• 5-9 years of software development experience, preferably Java.
• Experience with Unix/Linux and web service technologies (REST, JSON, SOAP, HTTP, SSL, XML/XSLT, etc.) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and/or configure, build, review and unit test software/solutions.
• Meet with technical leads, architects and vendor partners to determine project scope and vision, set system goals, identify and resolve system issues, ensure the system is implemented as designed and in adherence to the implementation guidelines.
• Partner with the business analysts to review and refine business requirements into core system capabilities.
• Assist developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and validating solutions that meet business requirements.
• Work directly with the business users to provide support including the design and development of customer training materials, and conducting customer training sessions.
• Provide 24x7 rotational technical support to solve business problems and documents resolution.
• Prototype new requirements for the purpose of enhancing technical functionalities and information process flow.
• Assist in QA efforts on tasks worked by providing input for test cases and supporting test case execution.
• Mentor team members on new technologies in area of expertise.
• Work with Enterprise teams to ensure changes are properly documented, communicated, audited, and deployed in compliance with established procedures.

This position is responsible for creating, designing, and supporting software running on various platforms used in Tractor Supply stores as well as gathering requirements and assisting in setting project scope.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

• Develop and/or configure, build, review and unit test software/solutions.
• Meet with technical leads, architects and vendor partners to determine project scope and vision, set system goals, identify and resolve system issues, ensure the system is implemented as designed and in adherence to the implementation guidelines.
• Partner with the business analysts to review and refine business requirements into core system capabilities.
• Assist developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and validating solutions that meet business requirements.

Required Qualifications

Experience: 5 - 9 years' equivalent work experience in a software development position (java preferred).

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college or university. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities

• 3+ years' experience working within Unix/Linux.
• 3+ years' experience with web service technologies (REST, JSON, SOAP, HTTP, SSL, XML/XSLT etc.) is preferred.
• Retail experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (Oracle preferred).
• Strong knowledge of portal technologies (Liferay and Oracle preferred).
• Strong knowledge of Unix- like operating systems (Linux preferred).
• Strong knowledge of development tools such as Ant, Maven, Eclipse, and JUnit.
• Strong knowledge of version control systems such as subversion and Git.
• Strong knowledge of standard Java debugging tools such as VisualVM, jmap, jstack, etc.
• Strong knowledge of design patterns, especially model-view-controller, inversion of control, and dependency injection is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Java web technologies such as Servlets, JavaBeans, JSTL, and JSP is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of web and application servers such as JBoss, Tomcat and Apache httpd is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of XML technologies: XML, Schemas, SAX, DOM, XSLT, XQuery, XMLBeans, JDOM, XHTML, AJAX is preferred.
• Strong familiarity with Continuous Integration concepts and tools is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the Agile software development methodology is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of automated testing tools such as JMeter and Grinder is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of wired and wireless store hardware devices (e.g. registers, receipt printers, pin pads, scanners, RF guns) and C-based drivers that work with them is preferred.
