The Sr. Designer, Sweaters position at Steve Madden is based in NYC on-site and leads sweater development from concept through production.

The role requires researching trends, sourcing yarns, and delivering tech-packs and CAD artwork while coordinating with overseas factories and internal teams. Ideal candidates bring a fashion design degree and 5+ years in sweaters, strong Illustrator/Photoshop skills, and outstanding organizational abilities to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced Wholesale

Qualifications

• College degree in fashion design preferred.
• Minimum of 5+ years experience in sweater industry.
• Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of target market.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage creative development of sweaters from proto to factory-ready production.
• Research markets, shop retail, and interact with consumers to establish trends.
• Source and select yarns and knitting stitch designs for samples.
• Create development tech-packs with technical flats, specs, stitches, patterns, and construction details.
• Present samples as envisioned to stakeholders.
• Create CAD sketches and stitch/pattern artwork for production.
• Communicate with overseas vendors and internal teams on product development.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines with needed support.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

General Summary

The Sr. Designer, Sweaters is responsible for sweater styles from initial concept through final production. This position supports the Wholesale Apparel business.

The responsibilities described below are considered essential functions of the role. This position is based in our NYC office and requires working on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and manage creative development of sweaters from the beginning of proto development to factory comments and fitting in production level
• Research markets, shop retail, and interact with consumer to establish trends
• Source and choose yarns and knitting stitch designs for samples
• Create development tech-packs including technical flat sketches, specs, stitches, patterns, and construction details
• Present sample as envisioned
• Create CAD sketches and stitch/pattern artwork
• Communicate with overseas venders and internal teams on product developments
• Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with support and resources as needed
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $100,000 - $110,000 Ranges are based on various factors such as relevant skillset, training, years of experience related to the current job description, education, and our organizational structure.
