Backyard ADUs is looking for a highly qualified Sr. Design Manager for their growing business. This is a full-time, remote position with travel to build sites and the office as needed throughout the week (Mon-Fri). The Senior Design Manager will lead our design team on a daily basis and engage in direct architectural design work. Responsibilities include the design and delivery of single ADUs, as well as the development of Backyard's upcoming multi-family projects in Maine and Massachusetts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

By 2025, the Design Manager will lead a team of 3 to design and build 56+ ADUs and over 60 units of multi-family apartments or townhouses. The manager will work closely with Backyard's civil project management team and collaborate with the CEO and COO to develop and execute the new multifamily business line.

Qualifications
  • Licensed Architect
  • Experience hiring Architects to act as Architect of Record for multi-family projects
  • 5+ years managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • 5+ years in modular home design and specification
  • In-depth knowledge of modular design, engineering, and production processes
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent record-keeping skills
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets (Excel and Google Sheets), managing files and records (Google Drive), and related procedures

Must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily and possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, including:

  • Advanced experience with home building and modular/manufactured housing operations
  • Ability to interpret organizational policies and standards
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to read, understand, and effectively communicate information, ask questions, and listen actively
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups
  • Ability to guide and supervise subordinates, set performance standards, and monitor performance
  • Strong analytical skills to achieve positive results in challenging situations
