The Sr. Design Engineer, Diesel Integration leads the mechanical and system-level integration of diesel powerplants into Rogers Machinery’s portable air compressor product line. This role owns the engine-to-package design — cooling, exhaust, fuel, and structural/enclosure integration — ensuring every diesel-driven unit performs reliably in the field. This is a hands‑on, technically driven individual‑contributor role. Works closely with the controls and electrical teams supporting each design. Must be able to work under minimal supervision of the department manager.
- Define product scope via sales order, rough sketches, or verbal instructions.
- Develop and validate engine-to-system integration layouts for portable air compressor packages, including cooling, intake, exhaust/aftertreatment, fuel, lubrication, and control systems.
- Verify diesel engines are properly matched to compressor and driven equipment, considering power curves, duty cycles, load requirements, and environmental/field conditions, drawing on diesel engine platform experience (Cummins preferred; CAT and Volvo a plus).
- Develop design solutions for thermal management, vibration, and sound dampening; conduct system-level analysis and verification.
- Design and integrate enclosure, sheet metal, and structural components that house and protect the diesel powerplant within the portable package.
- Develop and manage product designs, schematics, validation procedures and testing.
- Manage BOMs, validation reports, and compliance requirements on diesel-powered products.
- Collaborate with controls and electrical engineers to define engine, controls, and electrical requirements and integrate them into the package design.
- Support and conduct system-level troubleshooting of engine operation within the equipment, including load response, transient performance, and fault detection.
- Lead design release process, certification testing, and production release.
- Coordinate and manage simultaneous projects, sustaining and new product development.
- Act as a diesel integration ambassador by defining and promoting best practices and standards for integrating diesel powerplants into portable industrial equipment.
Additional Job Duties:
- Support production, field commissioning, and troubleshooting of diesel-powered installations.
- Define retrofit kits, system upgrades, and modifications to ensure performance or lifecycle across the powerplant lineup.
- Provide support for sales, service, cost estimates, design consultation, and installations.
- Identify alternate integration methods or components to reduce cost, lead time, or supply risk.
- Provide guidance and training to junior team members and supporting departments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; BSME preferred.
- 7+ years’ experience in diesel engine integration, off-highway/mobile equipment design, or related mechanical engineering. This is an individual-contributor role by design — best suited to someone motivated by deep technical mastery.
- Genuine hands‑on “gearhead” experience integrating diesel subsystems (cooling, fuel, exhaust/aftertreatment, intake, lubrication, sheet metal and general component placement).
- Strong understanding of diesel engine performance, duty cycles, and system-level operation.
- Knowledge and experience with applicable regulations, including: DOT, Environmental, UL, emissions (EPA Tier 4 final, EU Stage V, CARB).
- Working understanding of diesel engine control and electrical systems, enough to define high-level requirements and work effectively with controls and electrical engineers.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 10% to job sites.
Preferred Skills:
- Advanced 3D CAD modeling (CREO, Windchill, or equivalent); skilled in assembly, detailed drawings, sheet metal, and enclosure design.
- Prior experience with portable, skid-mounted, or trailer-mounted diesel-driven equipment (compressors, generators, or similar mobile machinery) serving industrial applications.
- Strong background in thermal, vibration, and acoustic system analysis, including exposure to hydraulic-driven cooling fan systems (legacy platforms); comfortable joining a growing team and helping build out design and release processes rather than expecting them fully defined.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with a customer‑first focus.
- International exposure (Europe, Asia, or other global markets) a plus, though deep expertise is not required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Physical Demands:
- Exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally and 25-50 lbs. frequently, 10-20 lbs. constantly.
- Standing and sitting for long periods.
Job Type:
- Full-time/Part-Time

- Vision Insurance
- Flexible Spending Account(s)
- Life Insurance
- Profit Share
- Paid Time Off
