Job Description

The Database Engineer in this role will perform high-level database engineering and management tasks. This includes leading data design, data structure identification, database schema definition, data access privilege management, data query optimization, documentation, database instance upgrades, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and data protection.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the high-side DB Engineer / Administrator for the API Services Team
  2. Responsible for ongoing maintenance of existing DBs (AWS RDS)
  3. Identify performance bottlenecks in current DBs and implement fixes (short-term and long-term)
  4. Optimize all DB queries and updates within microservices and identify best solutions for implementation (e.g., stored procedures)
  5. Define a migration path from the current database to the “to be” database to optimize workload in production
  6. Coordinate with Low-side team(s) to develop changes in development and test environments and package them for deployment
  7. Perform ETL development activities including parser development, data flow management, data lifecycle policies, troubleshooting, and data modeling

Basic Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of database management systems and SQL optimization
  • Experience with Dynamo and SQL-based databases
  • Strong skills in writing and optimizing complex SQL statements and stored procedures
  • Experience developing ETL operations in AWS using NiFi flows
  • Ability to negotiate complex scenarios and devise effective solutions
  • Proven leadership in critical objectives with high decision-making impact
  • BS degree with 8+ years relevant experience or equivalent work experience
  • Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Polygraph

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS/C2S services including RDS
  • Experience with Spring, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and NiFi
