The Hertz Corporation is seeking a Senior Data Scientist in the United States to lead end-to-end model development and scalable analytical solutions that transform business decisions. You will collaborate across Product, Operations, Revenue Management, and Fleet teams to drive revenue growth, optimize costs, and enhance customer experience.

You will mentor junior analysts, stay current with data science trends, and deliver MVPs that unlock real business value.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in data science with impactful projects in relevant industries.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis, modeling, and automation.
• 3+ years of end-to-end ML model development (framing, EDA, feature engineering, tuning, deployment).
• Experience with large datasets, databases, and distributed data processing tools such as PySpark.
• Preferred hands-on experience with Databricks and building apps/dashboards.
• Experience using LLMs to connect data sources and accelerate analysis is a plus.

Job description

A Day in the Life:

As a Senior Data Scientist on the Data Science & Insights team, you will use data science to support business transformation by improving how decisions are made and how complex problems are solved. You will work on practical, scalable data science solutions that improve operational performance, strengthen forecasting, and enhance the customer experience. You will balance technical depth with business judgment, moving quickly from problem definition to usable solutions, collaborating across teams, and helping the organization make faster, smarter decisions.

The starting salary for this role is $115,000, commensurate with experience.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the end-to-end model lifecycle, from problem framing and EDA to feature engineering, model tuning, deployment, and monitoring.

• Build scalable, reliable models and analytical solutions that support repeatable decision-making across products, services, and business processes.

• Apply these solutions to improve demand forecasting, fleet planning, vehicle turnaround, maintenance planning, and customer satisfaction.

• Create leadership-ready data stories that frame key metrics, explain the “why,” and guide business decisions.

• Partner with Product, Operations, Revenue Management, and Fleet teams to identify, prioritize, and deliver high-value use cases that support revenue growth, operating expense reduction, and improved business performance.

• Support the transformation by developing practical MVPs, testing quickly, and iterating solutions that unlock business value.

• Mentor junior data analysts and contribute to a culture of learning, innovation, and quick experimentation.

• Stay current on data science methods, emerging technologies, and industry trends to continually improve team capabilities.

What We’re Looking For:

• Education: Master’s degree preferred; Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.

• Experience: 5+ years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of delivering impactful projects, preferably in the rental car, automotive, transportation, or hospitality industries.

• Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis, modeling, and automation.

• 3+ years of end-to-end machine learning model development experience, from problem framing and EDA through feature engineering, tuning, and deployment.

• Experience working with large datasets, databases, and distributed data processing tools such as PySpark.

• Preferred hands‑on experience with cloud‑based data and analytics platforms such as Databricks, including building apps and dashboards.

• Experience using LLMs to connect fragmented data sources, validate assumptions, and accelerate analysis is a plus.

• Analytical Skills:

• Ability to connect the dots across data sources and shape analysis into practical solutions teams can implement.

• Communication:

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders and explain complex concepts clearly.

• Ability to visualize metrics, analysis, and solutions in ways that drive understanding and action.
