United Utility Services, LLC is hiring a hands‑on Sr. Data Engineer in Spring, TX (onsite) to design, build, and operationalize a Microsoft-centric, 100% cloud enterprise data platform. The role combines architecture ownership with direct implementation across ingestion, modeling, governance, and analytics enablement.
Role Overview
This position serves as a hands‑on data architect responsible for end‑to‑end outcomes. The scope includes unifying disparate, vendor-hosted data sources for governed analytics, self‑service reporting, and future AI initiatives, while translating business and operational needs into actionable data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and personally implement core components of the enterprise data architecture using Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake) and Azure data services.
- Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines that integrate multiple SaaS and vendor-hosted systems.
- Develop enterprise data models (conceptual, logical, physical) that support reporting and operational use cases.
- Enable analytics and self‑service reporting through Power BI, Power Platform, and Dataverse.
- Use strong SQL skills across data modeling, transformations, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Build reliable data pipelines using Python, APIs, cloud storage, and modern data integration tools.
- Apply experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure SQL / Synapse / Fabric, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar environments.
- Work with structured and semi‑structured sources, including REST APIs, JSON, CSV, Excel, databases, and SaaS exports.
- Use data transformation, orchestration, and integration tools such as dbt, Airbyte, Fivetran, Dagster, Airflow, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms.
- Use Git‑based development workflows and basic software engineering practices.
- Support AI‑enabled analytics and automation, including practical use of AI coding assistants and LLM‑based workflows.
- Improve reporting through Power BI modeling and performance tuning using Power Query and DAX, including dashboard development.
- Work with Microsoft Power Platform components including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse.
- Design and implement analytics‑ready data models optimized for reporting and performance.
- Build and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, and shared data sources for operational reporting, financial and performance reporting, and executive dashboards.
- Ensure reports rely on governed, consistent datasets to reduce duplication and conflicting metrics.
- Partner with business users and analysts to understand reporting requirements and translate them into data models and reusable datasets.
- Enhance report performance, reliability, and refresh stability using appropriate modeling, aggregation strategies, and Fabric/Azure SQL optimization.
- Define a practical, phased enterprise data strategy and roadmap aligned to business priorities.
- Establish architectural standards balancing scalability, cost, and usability.
- Personally implement data governance practices, including data ownership and stewardship models, data quality rules and monitoring, plus metadata, documentation, and lineage standards.
- Coordinate with IT security to ensure security, access control, and compliance requirements are met.
- Partner with IT, Finance, Operations, and business leaders to deliver data solutions that are usable and trusted.
- Act as a technical authority on enterprise data decisions and provide light mentorship as data practices mature.
