Job summary

Starbucks Corp. is seeking a Data Engineer Sr to build and maintain scalable data pipelines across batch, real-time, and analytics platforms.

You will partner with teams to define data requirements, governance, and reliability while delivering production-grade data foundations for data science and business decisions. You will work with SQL/NoSQL, Spark, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), and orchestration tools like Airflow/Data Factory, mentoring others in Agile/DevOps and delivering robust data

Qualifications

• 5+ years of SQL platform experience.
• 2+ years exposure to NoSQL platforms.
• 5+ years with Apache Spark and large-scale processing.
• 1+ years on Azure or AWS cloud platforms.
• 1+ years CI/CD tools and practices.
• 1+ years data orchestration with Airflow or Data Factory.
• 2+ years exposure to SOA architecture.
• Proficient in Java/Scala/C#/Python with debugging skills.
• Shell scripting, logging/monitoring patterns, deployment best practices.
• Experience productionalizing big data implementations.
• Familiarity with Tableau or similar is a plus.
• Mentoring ability and Agile/DevOps environment experience.

Job Summary and Mission

As a Data Engineer sr, you will… Build and support highly available data pipelines across batch/distributed and real-time processing to enable analytics at scale.

Translate strategic needs into working solutions by partnering across teams to define requirements, implement data governance and retention practices, and improve standards and reliability.

Build and sustain production-grade data foundations that power data science products and business decisions at scale, partnering closely with data scientists to understand use cases and ensure data is reliable, well-defined, and fit for the business use case

Preferred qualifications

• 5+ years working with SQL platforms
• 2+ years working with (or strong exposure to) NoSQL platforms
• 5+ years working with Apache Spark and large-scale distributed data processing platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric (or similar)
• 1+ years implementing data platforms on Azure or AWS (advanced scope may align to 2+ years)
• 1+ years experience with CI/CD tools and practices (advanced scope may align to 2+ years)
• 1+ years experience with data orchestration platforms like Airflow or Data Factory (or similar)
• 2+ years exposure to SOA architecture and service integration patterns
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, or C#, Python plus strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
• Proficiency in shell scripting, logging/monitoring patterns, and enterprise deployment best practices
• Experience productionalizing big data implementations (advanced scope may include multiple implementations)
• Familiarity with Tableau (or similar) is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to mentor others and operate effectively in Agile/DevOps environments

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
