Job summary

Ingram Marine Group in Ashland City, TN is seeking a Crane Operator to safely load and unload cargo at our river terminal. The Sr. Crane Operator will mentor other operators, train staff on friction cranes and material handlers, and ensure compliance with safety regulations while maintaining efficient cargo flow.

The ideal candidate has 4-5 years of crane operation experience, a High School diploma or GED, and First Aid & CPR certification. Weekend shifts and outdoor work are expected.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required.
  • 4-5 years experience as a Crane Operator.
  • Certification Required: First Aid & CPR.
  • Proven experience operating friction cranes and material handlers in river terminal or maritime environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate friction cranes and material handler to load and unload cargo efficiently and safely.
  • Train other personnel in crane and material handler operations for cargo handling.
  • Mentor crane operators and terminal associates, ensuring safe work practices.
  • Assist management with onboarding new operators and evaluating competency.
  • Maintain equipment records and report malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Work with supervisors and vessel crews to coordinate cargo handling.

Job Description

Ingram Marine Groupis looking for a Crane Operatorin theAshland City, TNarea.

The Sr. Crane Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating friction cranes and material handlers to transport materials and perform various tasks at a river terminal. The operator will assist in loading/unloading cargo, managing inventory, and maintaining a smooth workflow in theterminal. The operator will serve as a subject matter expert for crane operations in the terminal, providing mentorship, training, and technical guidance while ensuring safe and efficient cargo handling. The operator will also train other associates on how to operate friction cranes and material handlers while ensuring compliance with all company regulatory requirements.

What you will be doing:

  • Operate friction cranes and material handler to load and unload cargo efficiently and safely.
  • Effectively train other personnel in the operation of all forms of cranes and material handlers to load and unload cargo materials such as grain, coal, steel coils, salt or other terminal goods.
  • Leads by example with safe work practices and operational excellence.
  • Serves as a mentor and coach to crane operators and terminal associates.
  • Assists management with evaluating and onboarding new operators.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in evaluating operator competency and providing constructive feedback
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of cargo from vessels, trucks, and rail cars.
  • Operate and maintain terminal equipment such as conveyors, and door gun, barge loader spout, and hard car probe at all terminal facilities.
  • Ensure that cargo is properly secured and organized for transport or storage.
  • Assist with opening and closing barge cover access doors, and/or removing and resetting barge cover tops.
  • Monitor and communicate with barge drafter or crane operator.
  • Monitor and communicate barge drafts loader or crane operator.
  • Perform routine checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, including dock areas, warehouse spaces, and cargo storage areas.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and vessel crew members to ensure smooth operations.
  • Troubleshoots operational equipment issues and assists maintenance personnel in identifying root causes.
  • Maintains detailed equipment inspection and operational records.
  • Recognized as the terminal expert on friction crane operations and specialized lifting activities.
  • Assist with inventory, including tracking cargo and reporting discrepancies.
  • Perform general labor tasks such as cleaning, sorting, and organizing goods, tools, and supplies.
  • Cleaning product from pits, barge decks and barge covers, and other areas as necessary.
  • Work in varying weather conditions and maintain physical stamina throughout shifts.
  • Perform any other reasonable task as requested.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Physical activities that are essentials to daily functions include but are not limited to: 1) regularly lifting loads up to 50lbs unassisted and occasionally up to 75lbs. 20 Climbing of ladders over 20’of vertical height while using fall protection. 30 Frequently carrying, dragging, and pulling of wires, lines and railcar door opener equipment. 4) Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling and reaching. 5) Frequent shoveling and sweeping and strenuous sledgehammering of railcars. Familiarity with safety protocols and ability to follow instructions.
  • Proven experience operating friction cranes and material handlers, preferably in a river terminal or maritime environment.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in crane operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Physical fitness to handle the demands of the job, including lifting and climbing

Education & Experience Preferences/Requirements:

  • High School or GED required
  • 4-5 Years experience as a Crane Operatorrequired
  • Certification Required:First Aid & CPR

Working Environment and Conditions:

  • Outdoor/indoor working environment with exposure to loud noises, dust, and potentially hazardous materials
  • Shift work may be required, including weekends or holidays, depending on the operation schedule
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, hard hats, gloves, and steel-toeboots
