Job summary

Paramount is seeking a Senior Counsel to join the Law Department, supporting the U.S. Distribution group. You will draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of distribution agreements across linear, VOD and streaming platforms, and guide more junior attorneys in complex negotiations.

The role demands deep contract and corporate law knowledge, the ability to distill information for clients, and strong leadership in a fast-paced environment, with collaboration across USD and Paramount executives.

Overview:

Paramount is looking for Senior Counsel to join the Law Department team supporting the U.S. Distribution (USD) group. This role requires drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of agreements arising from the distribution of Paramount’s programming services and content. This includes a broad array of media platforms (e.g. cable and satellite television, internet/OTT, connected devices, integrated streaming platforms) with a focus on linear, VOD and streaming distribution agreements. The ideal candidate will bring prior relevant deal experience, and will be expected to take a leadership role on complex negotiations and to help guide the development of more junior attorneys.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Leading and managing complex, high-value negotiations with minimal oversight
• Providing advice and counsel on a variety of legal and business affairs matters
• Monitoring contractual and regulatory compliance
• Assisting with various departmental and administrative functions and assignments requiring interaction with other groups within USD (e.g., Partnerships, Deal Finance, Strategy), with attorneys supporting other client groups and with executives across Paramount.
• Providing guidance, mentorship, and work-product review to more junior attorneys
• Supporting and advising senior leadership as needed

Basic Qualifications:

• Extensive, in-depth knowledge of contract and general corporate law
• Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate, structure, and draft complex agreements and to optimally distill information for clients
• Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced environment
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Ability to negotiate agreements with third parties independently, including complex or high-stakes matters
• Ability to work closely with and maintain positive relationships with Paramount personnel
• Knowledge of media, intellectual property, communications, technology and/or internet law and FCC regulation is preferred
• Applicable experience in the television, streaming and/or other digital media industry is a plus

Additional Qualifications:

• J.D. and approximately 8 years of law firm and/or relevant in-house experience
• New York State Bar membership and/or qualified to register as NY In-House Counsel

Additional Information

Hiring Salary Range: $176,800.00 - 198,900.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
