Job description

The Opportunity
  • Sr. Cost Accountant at a Growth-Oriented Energy Company
  • You will play a key role in the inventory valuation processes, gaining exposure to several regions and their processes.
  • Enjoy interaction with the Commercial and Accounting teams, as well as multi-state operations across Texas, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, and Hawaii.
  • Learn and grow in SAP (our financial ERP system) and financial analysis processes.

Reporting to the Inventory Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for margin analysis of our Refining business segment, providing reliable analysis to facilitate timely business decisions.

Key activities include:
  • Work closely with Commercial & Settlements to understand monthly crude and refined product activity.
  • Coordinate with Billing/Contract teams for trade activity review and cargo volume and price data collection.
  • Collaborate with yield accounting to reconcile movements, roll forward inventory, and calculate yield.
  • Reconcile inventory and perform inventory costing analysis.
  • Prepare and oversee exchange activity and resolve discrepancies.
  • Conduct variance analyses monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Perform FIFO inventory calculations.
  • Prepare key reports for management review.
  • Review current period purchases and settlements in relation to title transfer, liabilities, and balance sheet presentation.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Work with internal auditors on controls documentation and SOX compliance.
  • Provide documentation for quarterly SEC filings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting/finance experience required.
  • SAP experience preferred (MM/FI/CO modules).
  • Cost/Inventory Accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Understanding of GAAP and ability to apply it.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Problem-solving and initiative-taking skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication skills, fluency in English.
