Remote U.S. Role

OVERVIEW

Altera Digital Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Corporate Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. This role offers a unique opportunity to serve as a key legal resource, providing expert counsel on a wide range of privacy and commercial matters. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in both privacy law, particularly HIPAA, and commercial transactions within the healthcare technology space. This is a pivotal role for a self-starter who is eager to contribute significantly to the legal function, collaborate across business units, and has the potential for future leadership within the department. Candidates should be team players who are curious, humble and can work cooperatively toward the goals of the companies in a matrixed organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide expert legal counsel and guidance on federal and state privacy laws, including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA),and other applicable data protection regulations.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a wide variety of commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, licensing agreements, vendor contracts, IT outsourcing, business associate agreements, and other technology-related transactions within the healthcare IT industry.
  • Serve as a legal advisor to various business units, providing practical and strategic advice on legal risks and opportunities related to both privacy and commercial matters.
  • Manage and respond to data security incidents, including conducting investigations and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyze new and evolving privacy laws and regulations and advise the company on their potential impact.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, IT, security, and sales, on privacy and commercial legal issues.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of form agreements and legal templates.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions and other strategic transactions with respect to privacy and commercial due diligence and integration.
  • Potentially manage and mentor other members of the legal team in the future.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to and in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. state.
  • IAPP certified, preferred.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years relevant legal experience, with a focus on both privacy law (specifically HIPAA) and commercial transactions within the healthcare IT industry.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements in the technology or healthcare sectors.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. privacy laws and regulations, including state-specific requirements.
  • Experience working with healthcare IT clients and/or vendors.
  • Prior in-house legal experience at a technology or healthcare company.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership potential and a desire for professional growth.

TRAVEL

Minimal travel is expected, likely a few times per year for internal meetings or industry events.

WORK ARRANGEMENTS

This is a remote position based in the United States, with a preference for candidates located in the Eastern Time Zone (ET) or Central Time Zone (CT) to facilitate collaboration across teams.
