Job description
Overview

The Credentialing Specialist role reports to the Director Physician Credentialing and Peer Review. The incumbent performs daily functions of the credentialing and recredentialing process for Physicians, Renal Fellows, and Allied Health Professionals. Responsibilities include applying credentialing policies and procedures, complying with Medical Staff Bylaws and Federal/State regulatory requirements, and serving as a resource to clinic personnel to ensure timely credentialing. The position acts as a team lead to manage workflow, conducts audits, supports metrics reporting, and mentors new coordinators on policy, procedures, and the MSOW credentialing database.

Responsibilities
  • Perform day-to-day credentialing and recredentialing activities for facility providers, reporting to the Credentialing Services Manager.
  • Train new teammates on the credentialing process and the MSOW database; serve as a point person for credentialing questions related to processing or database entry.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining current policies and procedures, credentialing manual, provider correspondence, and MSOW database processes; contribute to best practices and special projects.
  • Track workflow for assigned coordinators and report to credentialing department management.
  • Audit monthly CAC files and function as team lead on workflow aspects of the department.
  • Process a high volume of privilege requests from Physicians, Renal Fellows, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Nurse Specialists.
  • Review and track requests to add/remove practitioners to facilities within assigned divisions.
  • Distribute application materials, review for completeness, follow up on outstanding items, and perform primary source verifications.
  • Follow up with non-responsive practitioners and assist with obtaining credentialing packets and other documentation.
  • Enter and update practitioner information in the credentialing database while maintaining data integrity.
  • Organize information for committee meetings and governing body votes; maintain confidential provider files.
  • Scan documentation of approved memberships/privileges and privilege letters; ensure timely notification to practitioners; follow up on outstanding vote requests.
  • Serve as liaison between the Credentialing Department and facilities to educate and ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred; 3-5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPCS certification highly preferred.
  • Previous credentialing experience required.
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, database maintenance, Internet); knowledge of MSOW credentialing software a plus.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and judgment.
