Job summary

Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center seeks a Sr. Controller to provide strategic leadership over accounting operations and financial reporting, ensuring GAAP compliance and robust internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience in healthcare or nonprofit environments required.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of leadership experience managing accounting teams required.
• Experience preparing complete and accurate monthly financial statements in a multi-entity or fund-based environment required.
• Extensive experience managing external audits and Single Audits (Uniform Guidance) required.
• Direct experience with HRSA compliance and federal grant management strongly preferred.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB, fund accounting, and nonprofit financial reporting required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Accounting Department, overseeing general accounting, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, grants accounting, investments, debt financing, and tax compliance.
• Develop and mentor a team of about 11 staff to foster accountability and continuous improvement.
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial statements and audit readiness.
• Ensure compliance with FQHC, HRSA, GAAP and Uniform Guidance.

POSITION SUMMARY:

In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Finance and the Chief Financial Officer, the Sr. Controller provides strategic leadership and oversight of all accounting operations and financial reporting for the organization, ensuring full compliance with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) requirements, federal and state regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

This role is responsible for the preparation and integrity of accurate, timely, and complete monthly financial statements, and serves as the organization’s subject matter expert on financial audits, including Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) requirements. The Sr. Controller ensures strong internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance across all funding sources, including federal grants.
