Rimkus seeks a Mechanical Engineer Senior Consultant to provide technical leadership on assessments, design, restoration, maintenance, upgrades, and new construction for commercial, residential, and industrial facilities.

The successful candidate will lead projects from initial assessment through completion, perform field investigations, prepare technical reports and drawings, and collaborate with stakeholders nationwide, advancing innovative, sustainable building solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years of mechanical engineering design experience.
  • Experience evaluating, designing, and assessing building mechanical systems.

Overview

Rimkus is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Senior Consultant to provide technical leadership and engineering expertise for projects involving assessments, design, restoration, maintenance, upgrades, and new construction across commercial, residential, and industrial facilities. This role works closely with Principals, Practice Leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate building systems, develop engineering solutions, manage projects, and support client relationships nationwide.

The successful candidate will lead mechanical engineering projects from initial assessment through project completion, perform field investigations, prepare technical reports and designs, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex projects involving existing building systems, adaptive reuse, facility improvements, and new construction initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects, including projects involving multiple disciplines.
  • Serve as the primary project contact, ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Collaborate with licensed professionals in the design, assessment, renovation, restoration, and construction of commercial, residential, and industrial facilities.
  • Provide technical expertise for projects involving building systems assessments, upgrades, maintenance programs, restoration efforts, and new construction.
  • Evaluate existing mechanical systems and prepare recommendations for repairs, replacements, improvements, and modernization.
  • Coordinate adaptive reuse projects and modifications to existing facilities to support changing operational needs, equipment installations, and occupancy requirements.
  • Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and system evaluations in support of project objectives.
  • Develop technical reports, specifications, scopes of work, cost estimates, and construction documents.
  • Conduct field assessments and inspections of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Work in a variety of field environments, including rooftops, equipment rooms, ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and confined spaces as required.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality standards and client expectations.
  • Coordinate with consultants from other practice areas to deliver comprehensive and timely client reports.
  • Support the preparation of proposals by providing technical input, project approaches, and budget recommendations.
  • Partner with the Business Development team by serving as a subject matter expert during client meetings and presentations.
  • Build, maintain, and grow relationships with existing clients.
  • Communicate regularly with clients throughout project execution and proactively address concerns or project-related issues.
  • Participate in technical presentations and client-facing meetings as needed.
  • Stay current with industry standards, building codes, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering principles, building systems, and related design practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other Building Information Modeling (BIM) platforms.
  • Experience using Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) or similar HVAC system sizing and energy modeling software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing abilities with experience preparing reports, proposals, scopes of work, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to analyze complex engineering issues, identify solutions, and provide sound professional recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and engineering design software applications.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical publications, engineering reports, building codes, contracts, and legal documents.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients, contractors, building owners, and team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to foster positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
Required Education, Experience & Certifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years of mechanical engineering design experience.
  • Experience evaluating, designing, and assessing building mechanical systems.
  • Experience managing projects and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Experience with commercial, residential, and industrial facilities.
  • Experience supporting building assessments, facility upgrades, restoration projects, and adaptive reuse initiatives.

The Salary Range for this position is $104,000 - $156,000 and is dependent on education, experience,locationand certifications/licensure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVEL
Physical Demands –

Work will be performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client’s office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be attentive, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Overtime –

This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
