Job summary

Amazon in New Carlisle, Indiana, seeks a Sr. Construction Manager for MLZ Data Center Construction.

You will own scope, budget, and schedule for large-scale data center builds and oversee complex MEP systems, while coordinating with Operations, Networking, and Security teams. Lead construction management efforts, negotiate with contractors, drive cost controls, and support commissioning and ongoing facility operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent with 7+ years of construction experience, OR 11+ years without a degree.
  • 6+ years of experience managing large, complex projects involving large-scale MEP plants.
  • 6+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (RFPs, bidding, change orders, QC, RFIs).

Responsibilities

  • Own project scope, quality, schedule, and budget for construction of new data centers.
  • Lead construction management and oversight of construction related activities.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build Data Centers.
  • Represent Amazon’s owner on construction sites daily and interface with general contractors.
  • Drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing contractors and vendors.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and operations of facilities.
  • Analyze and report construction progress and financials.
  • Provide constructability reviews for electrical and mechanical designs.

As our Data Center Construction Manager (CM), you will be a part of a diverse, upbeat, and creative team tasked with solving fascinating problems constructing Amazon Data Centers. Our data centers are industry-leading examples of energy efficient and cost-effective designs.

Responsibilities
  • Own project scope, quality, schedule, and budget for construction of new builds or general capital projects.
  • Own construction project management and oversight of construction related activities.
  • Work alongside partner teams such as Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build Data Centers that directly support our Customers.
  • Be a leader in your specific discipline (construction management, building services, architectural, electrical or mechanical engineering).
  • Represent Amazon’s owner’s representative on construction sites daily, interacting with construction trades.
  • Be Amazon’s construction representative on multiple data center building and capital improvement construction project sites from construction start through hand-off to operations.
  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during the construction bidding, award, execution, punch‑list, and close out phases.
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals.
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids and proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Manage and drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction contractors and vendors.
  • Perform construction project management activities, including management of documents, submittals, RFIs, change orders, invoices, quality, scope, and schedule.
  • Drive construction teams to troubleshoot and perform root‑cause failure analysis on equipment failures.
  • Support commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight.
  • Support operations of installed facilities, including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support capital request creation.
  • Analyze and report construction progress and financials.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Contribute to construction initiatives aimed at improving construction efficiency and increasing data center resiliency.
  • Provide constructability reviews for electrical and mechanical designs for new or optimization of existing data centers.

A day in the life: This project site is in New Carlisle, Indiana.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience constructing electrical engineering systems including large scale power distribution/generation gear and mechanical engineering systems including cooling systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent engineering science plus 7+ years of relevant construction experience, OR 11+ years of relevant construction experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 6+ years of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants.
  • 6+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, and RFI and submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent, or 10+ years of data center or mission critical facilities (example: hospital, military facility, public safety facility, etc.) experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Construction Management of large‑scale projects.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Project Management and Vendor Management.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Data Center system‑level architecture and electrical engineering principles.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Data Center system‑level architecture and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience designing data centers or critical MEP infrastructure.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
