Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Data Center Manager of Construction to lead construction efforts across multiple data centers, owning scope, schedule, budget, and quality. You will collaborate with Operations, Networking, Security, and other teams to build facilities that support AWS customers.

You will oversee contractor management, RFPs, bids, and on-site leadership, ensuring safety, cost control, and timely hand-offs while driving data center resiliency and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of management experience.
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking)
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in data center operations ( feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, AHUs, CRACs)

Responsibilities

  • Be Amazon’s construction representative on multiple data centers building and capital improvement sites from start through hand-off to operations.
  • Direct interface with general contractors during bidding, award, execution, punch-list, and close-out phases.
  • Create construction project Scope of Work (SOW) and Request for Proposals (RFP).
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids and proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Manage and drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction contractors and vendors.
  • Perform construction project management activities including documents, submittals, RFIs, change orders, invoices, quality, scope, and schedule.
  • Drive construction teams to troubleshoot and perform root-cause failure analysis on equipment failures.
  • Support commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight.
  • Support operations of installed facilities, including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support capital request creation.
  • Analyze and report construction progress and financials.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Contribute to construction initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and resiliency.
  • Provide constructability reviews for civil, structural, electrical and mechanical designs.
  • Be a leader within the group and internal/external data center support teams.

You Will
  • Own project scope, quality, schedule, and budget for construction of new builds or general capital projects.
  • Own construction project management and oversight of construction related activities.
  • Work alongside partner teams such as Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build Data Centers that directly support our Customers.
  • Be a leader in your specific discipline (construction management, building services, architectural, electrical or mechanical engineering).
  • Represent Amazon’s owner’s representative on construction sites daily, interacting with construction trades.

Key job responsibilities

Manage the day to day responsibilities of the CM team, engage with other internal AWS managers and team members. New Carlisle, Indiana will be the permanent reporting location.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
  • Experience in management
  • Experience as a general contractor and in vendor management (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution
  • Experience hiring, developing, and managing high‑performing technical teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
  • Experience owning the operation of a mission‑critical team or product
  • Experience with large‐scale technical operations or large‐scale compute farms
  • Experience with process improvement techniques such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
