Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Design and programming of SCADA systems using Wonderware, Ignition, Iconics, etc.
- Design and programming of PLC-based control systems using Allen-Bradley, GE, Schneider, Mitsubishi, etc.
- Configuring third-party software systems for power applications.
- Understanding communication methodologies (ethernet, serial, fiber, radio, coaxial, DSL, etc.) and protocols (Modbus, ethernet/IP, DNP3, GE, EtherCAT, OPC, Koyo, etc.).
- Design and quality control of point-to-point wiring diagrams.
- Assist engineering with control wiring and concepts.
- Maintain PLC, networking, and SCADA systems in the field.
- Utilize basic engineering principles and practical design solutions.
- Assist in developing and reviewing custom designs and sequences.
- Assist with equipment deliveries.
- Coordinate project designs with clients, sales, managers, and engineers.
- Coordinate trades with sub-consultants.
- Participate in on-call schedule rotation.
- Attend job meetings and coordinate activities.
- Attend training to enhance duties.
- Lead, delegate, and train staff.
- Adhere to safety standards.
- Communicate with project managers and clients.
- Understand project scope and communicate scope creep opportunities.
- Identify new project opportunities.
- Startup, commissioning, and modification of control systems.
- Inspect and walk down field wiring diagrams.
- Understand control wiring and concepts.
- Read electrical and control system drawings.
- Set up and maintain PLC, networking, and SCADA systems in the field.
- Assist with software installation and configuration on Windows workstations and servers.
- Perform startup, testing, and customer training.
- Terminate communication cables/connectors (RJ11, RJ45, etc.).
- Wire panels, including routing, termination, harnessing, and cabling (supporting 5VDC to 480VAC).
- Wire control components like PLCs, HMIs, RTUs, controllers, relays, meters, modems, routers, etc.
- Develop solutions for complex issues.
- Work primarily in remote customer sites.
- Be available for short-notice site visits for commissioning, service, or maintenance.
- Coordinate project deliverables and schedules.
- Lead, delegate, and train staff during commissioning at customer sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with Wonderware and Ignition is a plus.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley or similar PLCs is a plus.
- Ability to use power and manual hand tools.
- Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and assembly drawings.
- Teamwork skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Initiative, organization, and responsibility.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Education & Experience:
- 6+ years in electrical and controls technician roles or 2+ years as a controls designer.
- Some college or technical school preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing, construction, or engineering is advantageous.
License & Certifications:
- Driver's license required.
Travel:
Travel is expected to be 50-90%, including overnight and local day travel. You are responsible for your transportation; expenses such as tolls, parking, and mileage are reimbursed according to standards. Travel to and from the office is not reimbursed.
Physical Requirements:
Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequently lifting/moving up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
