Job Description

The Team: The mission of the DSE Messaging team is to provide a reliable, scalable, and real-time distributed messaging backbone that enables seamless data streaming and event-driven communication across services, systems, and applications within the Market Intelligence division. We are currently utilizing distributed messaging platforms and associated technologies to link Business Units across MI. Additionally, the team manages a substantial infrastructure set up on cloud services or on-premise servers with multiple data centers.

Responsibilities and Impact:

As the Lead Engineer, you will ensure that the messaging platform operates successfully, safely, and efficiently. You will work to increase productivity, decrease downtime, and support the mission of the Market Intelligence division. Providing client teams with a dependable application infrastructure and helping them succeed with their unique business use cases are critical functions of this role. You will also address technical issues, maintain infrastructure, provide on-call support, and implement enhancements as needed by business clients.

You will be positioned as a lead-level contributor or assigned to collaborate with user groups or client teams in the following areas:

Messaging Platform Engineering:

  • Install, configure, and maintain distributed messaging clusters and associated infrastructure across multiple regions and accounts.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot technical issues, taking corrective action as required.
  • Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery plans for messaging clusters.
  • Configure and manage messaging topics, partitions, and consumer groups.
  • Manage access controls, security, and authentication protocols for messaging clusters.

Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable, reliable, and secure cloud solutions.
  • Optimize cloud platform performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain blueprints and design documents for platform architecture.

Process Automation:

  • Automate cloud operations using infrastructure as code tools.
  • Use scripting languages to optimize and automate workflows.

Governance & Security:

  • Implement security best practices to safeguard cloud resources and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Develop risk assessments, disaster recovery plans, and support execution during disaster recovery exercises.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Partner with product and platform owners to deliver innovative solutions that empower business applications with scalable infrastructure.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to evaluate solutions and recommend strategies for modernizing and consolidating legacy platforms.

Production Support:

  • Provide operations support for event streaming platforms, ensuring cluster health and stability. Handle incident management, request fulfillment, and escalation.
  • Analyze logs to debug issues and performance bottlenecks. Collaborate with client teams to troubleshoot platform issues, consumer lag, and data replication inconsistencies.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including log retention management and partition rebalancing.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience combined with a bachelor's degree. A master's degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with messaging platforms in a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed messaging architecture, including brokers, topics, partitions, and replicas.
  • Proficiency in configuring, deploying, and managing messaging clusters in cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Experience with cloud services such as computing, storage, relational databases, and load balancing.
  • Experience with automation tools for infrastructure management.
  • Proficiency in programming languages for messaging-related development tasks will be a plus.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, monitoring, and logging.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a distributed environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working experience in an agile environment and methodologies.
  • Experience with observability tools for monitoring and logging.
  • Work experience with Linux systems; good knowledge of shell or scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies.
