Job summary

JLL is seeking a Senior Chief Engineer to lead engineering and maintenance operations for a data center, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective service delivery with 100% uptime. The role supervises staff, plans preventive maintenance, and coordinates with contractors to protect asset value.

The position is 1st shift, on-site in Phoenix, AZ, with a focus on compliant operations, safety training, and budget oversight, reporting to facilities leadership at JLL.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Mission Critical Data Center environments with knowledge of BMS, CMMS, MOP, SOPs.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems and NFPA codes.
  • 5+ years in related technical work including supervision of engineering or maintenance teams.
  • Proficient with Word and Excel; good verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance and continuous operation of building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, electrical, lighting, and controls.
  • Manage engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, and evaluation.
  • Develop preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance plans and safety programs.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and proper documentation; coordinate with contractors and vendors.
  • Assist in budget preparation and capital planning; ensure 100% uptime targets.

Senior Chief Engineer

1st shift : Monday - Friday 7 AM - 2:30 PM

Job Description

The Sr. Chief Engineer has the overall responsibility for engineering and maintenance operations to ensure that safe efficient and cost-effective delivery of services is provided to the client and Data Center. The Sr. Chief Engineer must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the client's needs, and a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime throughout the engineering team. The Sr. Chief is responsible for protecting and improving the value of the client's assets and ensuring that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended function.

Responsibilities.
  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls) electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear), lighting and temperature controls systems, critical environments, light construction (painting, doors, relites, locks).
  • Utilize staff and contracted outside vendors as needed. Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training and team development and evaluation.
  • Identify the maintenance objectives of the facility and incorporate those objectives into a documented plan that includes preventive, predictive and reactive maintenance procedures.
  • Identify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure the building's staff and occupants work in a safe environment. Implement, administer, and manage safety training program.
  • Ensure that compliance of all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the building's infrastructure. Responsible for alerting management of building discrepancies.
  • Assist in the development of a Capital plan which would include planning for infra-structure upgrades, equipment replacements and building modifications to ensure the building's future capabilities are maintained.
  • Ensure major projects performed at the building are properly planned, executed, and closed out in accordance with standard industry practices.
  • Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation for the building including up-to-date building drawings and single lines as well as documentation mandated for the purpose of maintaining regulatory compliance with Federal, State or Local law.
  • Oversee the activities of contractors working within the building either as representatives of the building itself or tenants operating within the buildings.
  • Record keeping of buildings rounds and readings, all engineering logs and engineering data sheets.
  • Provides advance training and notification to all contractors so they are informed and knowledgeable of the building's critical functions and the work they are to perform, including an incident contact response list.
  • Ensure that the Change Management Process is a well-understood process among the building staff, engineers, and contractors who perform work on the building's critical infrastructure.
  • This is a working Chief Engineer position that will take calls and be in the on-call 24X7.
  • Assist in preparing, administering, and monitoring the building maintenance budget.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience in Mission Critical Data Center is Required with a strong understanding of BMS, CMMS, MOP, SOP Creation, and review.
  • Knowledge and understanding of essential electrical power systems along with associated NFPA Codes
  • 5+ years of related technical work experience, including supervisory experience. Must be knowledgeable of all building systems maintenance including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service
  • Understanding of IT change control process
  • Understanding of Corrigo work order system.
