Job description

We are looking for a Sr Chemist I to join our RG team in Attapulgus.

Our group focuses on the research, development, scale-up, and testing of innovative catalysts for the refining/FCC market. As a Sr Chemist I, you will execute projects focused on developing new innovative products either for FCC base catalysts or additives. Your role will also include scale-up and development of such products to commercial scale. The role could also include development of deactivation/testing methods.

  • Utilizing your advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science to drive development of new catalyst formulations, improvement of existing products while working with technicians in the lab, pilot plant, and plant trial activities. You will be a technical resource for the Refining catalyst community.
  • Leading a team that includes scientists and technicians in solving and developing innovative solutions leading to products that satisfy customer needs. You will interface with business colleagues and customers.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, handling multiple tasks with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced lab and pilot plant setting.
  • Providing and communicating results in an impactful manner to relevant stakeholders in the form of presentations or reports.
  • Leveraging your problem-solving abilities, you will collaborate with R&D, business, and manufacturing colleagues to optimize performance of existing products or processes. You may be responsible for managing and leading technicians and carrying out performance reviews.
  • Being responsible for maintaining a strong safety culture in the laboratory and actively leading/participating in all BASF safety programs and practices.

  • Have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science with at least 3 years of related experience in Catalysis research, scale-up, or manufacturing OR a M.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science with 5+ years of related experience in catalyst development.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of research principles and techniques with proven ability to also work outside the field of specialization as well as familiarity with heterogeneous catalysis formulations and manufacturing would be preferred.
  • Have strong written/verbal communication, data analysis, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a background in the use of statistical tools such as DOE is a plus.
  • Have digitization skills is a plus.
  • Are proficient with MS Office tools.
