Position Summary

The Senior Calibration Technician is responsible for the calibration, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing, utility, facility, and process equipment. This is a hands-on technical role that spends the majority of time in manufacturing, utility, mechanical, and facility environments working directly on equipment. The ideal candidate is an experienced instrumentation, controls, electrical, or maintenance technician who is comfortable troubleshooting industrial equipment, interpreting electrical schematics and process flow documentation, working with electrical systems up to 480 volts, climbing ladders, operating scissor lifts, and performing work in elevated or difficult-to-access areas. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, reliable, and compliant operations by ensuring the accuracy and proper functioning of instrumentation used to monitor and control critical manufacturing parameters, including temperature, humidity, pressure, flow, level, speed, and environmental conditions.

Calibration, Instrumentation & Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled calibrations, corrective maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Calibrate and maintain process instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, level, conductivity, and environmental monitoring devices.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain process instrumentation used to measure and control critical operating parameters such as temperature, humidity, pressure, flow, level, speed, and environmental conditions.
  • Verify proper operation and accuracy of sensors, transmitters, indicators, and control devices supporting manufacturing and utility systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial instrumentation, controls, sensors, transmitters, control valves, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment issues through the interpretation of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
  • Interpret and troubleshoot equipment process flows, instrumentation loops, and control sequences to identify and resolve equipment performance issues.
  • Perform wiring, installation, configuration, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Conduct loop checks, signal verification, and instrument testing utilizing industry-standard calibration equipment.
  • Safely troubleshoot and work on industrial electrical systems up to 480V while following established safety procedures and Lockout/Tagout requirements.
  • Assist Maintenance personnel with troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems including pumps, motors, compressors, boilers, chillers, HVAC, purified water, and utility systems.
  • Maintain calibration standards, tools, and test equipment in proper working condition.
  • Update instrumentation records, electrical drawings, and P&IDs as needed.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate calibration and maintenance records within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Perform data entry, work order completion, report generation, and documentation updates.
  • Review completed calibration records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate calibration schedules with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance departments.
  • Author and revise calibration procedures, SOPs, work instructions, and job plans.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with cGMP requirements, site procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections as required.
Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Serve as a technical resource for instrumentation and control systems throughout the facility.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and qualification activities for new equipment and systems.
  • Participate in instrumentation selection and procurement activities for new projects.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and assist with root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability, process performance, and calibration program effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience & Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Instrumentation Technology, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in calibration, instrumentation, electrical maintenance, industrial controls, or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial equipment, instrumentation, and process control systems in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical manufacturing strongly preferred. Experience in biotechnology, chemical, food manufacturing, or other regulated manufacturing environments will also be considered.
  • Experience supporting GMP-regulated manufacturing processes and critical process instrumentation highly preferred.
  • Experience working with industrial electrical systems up to 480V strongly preferred.
  • Experience utilizing CMMS systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving instrumentation, controls, electrical systems, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of process instrumentation used to measure and control temperature, humidity, pressure, flow, level, speed, and other critical manufacturing parameters.
  • Working knowledge of 4-20mA, HART, Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, and related instrumentation technologies.
  • Ability to safely troubleshoot and work with AC and DC electrical systems up to 480V.
  • Thorough understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety requirements.
  • Proficiency using multimeters, loop calibrators, signal generators, and other diagnostic testing equipment.
  • Advanced ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, blueprints, equipment drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems by evaluating sensor performance, process conditions, signal integrity, and equipment operating data.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to safely work at heights and in mechanical or utility spaces.
  • Ability to operate ladders, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts or successfully complete company-provided certification training.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and use of hand tools.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in elevated locations, on ladders, and from aerial work platforms.
  • Ability to access equipment located in mechanical rooms, utility spaces, rooftops, and other hard-to-reach areas.
  • Ability to perform work while wearing required personal protective equipment.
Work Environment
  • Primarily works in manufacturing, utility, mechanical, and facility environments with regular exposure to operating equipment and systems.
  • Work may require troubleshooting equipment in production areas, utility spaces, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and elevated platforms.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, temperature variations, and industrial equipment is expected.
  • Position may require occasional evening, weekend, and off-shift support to meet business and operational needs.
  • Compliance with all safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety, fall protection, and aerial lift procedures, is required.
  • Required PPE may include safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear, fall protection equipment, and other site-specific protective equipment.
