Job description

As a member of Sunnyside’s Retail Merchandising team, your mission will be to create value for our stores by having the right product in the right place at the right time. As the Sr. Buyer, you will be responsible for setting the assortment of ancillary, non-cannabis products in Sunnyside stores; inclusive of categories, price points, SKU depth and velocity performance. You will work collaboratively with internal, cross-functional teams in delivering against sales objectives, eg : Wholesale of Ancillary, Planning, Marketing, Store Ops, and Analytics. With access to leading-edge Business Intelligence tools, you will leverage these to inform data-driven decision making in building the best non-cannabis, ancillary product assortment for Sunnyside.

CORE JOB DUTIES

  • Own and implement the comprehensive assortment and pricing strategies for non-cannabis, ancillary products end-to-end, aligning with company objectives and market trends from a curated set of vendors
  • Build a market-leading, competitive assortment that reflects the market trends, consumer preferences, and emerging product opportunities for Sunnyside
  • Create and deploy sell-through strategies to optimize inventory turnover and minimize excess stock, maximizing profitability while minimizing markdowns
  • Collaborate with internal Planning team to create curated assortments tailored to the unique needs and preferences of each store location
  • Establish and maintain strict adherence to buy budgets and financial targets, leveraging data and analytics to make informed purchasing decisions in partnership with the Planning team.
  • Lead the development and implementation of assortment plans, incorporating insights from sales data, customer feedback, and market research
  • Proactively ensure compliance with federal and state regulations on product sales, fostering partnerships to stay updated on evolving laws and restrictions
  • Drive the evaluation to determine the optimal inventory warehousing solution, considering both internal and 3PL options, to meet the evolving needs of the Sunnyside stores
  • Manage day-to-day purchasing activities in partnership with the Planning team by monitoring levels of product and proactively purchasing to ensure dispensaries are adequately stocked with the number of appropriate and applicable SKUs
  • Develop comprehensive promotional planning strategies aimed at achieving optimal return on investment and sell-through goals, including collaborating with store teams to implement store-specific markdowns on slow-moving, overstocked, or aged products
  • Partner closely with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure the timely submission of purchase orders and payments, enhancing financial efficiency and operational effectiveness for the business.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS

  • 5+ years of retail buying, merchandising, planning, or related experience
  • Understanding of procurement, logistics, and inventory management practices
  • Strong analytical skills and experience making fact-based decisions with data
  • Strong data skills within Excel. Tableau or Power BI experience a plus
  • Ability to stay organized, multi-task and operate in a pressured, fast-paced environment
  • Preference for a thorough understanding of cannabis product knowledge, plus a proactive willingness to learn more about the industry as it grows and evolves
  • Must be comfortable developing a strong understanding of and complying with all laws, rules and regulations pertaining to both cannabis related accessories and other highly regulated non-delta 9, cannabis infused products
