Job Description

Position Summary

Obtains the best quality, service, and value for products and services through effective bidding, negotiation, and supplier management. Identifies manufacturing needs, selects suppliers, negotiates contracts, and arranges delivery. Purchases a high volume and variety of parts, equipment, services, and materials.

Essential Functions

  1. Identifies and recommends suppliers by investigating potential suppliers, researching parts, equipment, machinery, services, and materials availability. Develops potential bidder list and initiates formal requests for quotation or proposal.
  2. Conducts supplier site visits and evaluates production capability, performance, delivery, and other key criteria. May complete supplier certification independently or with a team.
  3. Purchases parts, equipment, and materials by preparing requests for quotations and submitting purchase orders with approved suppliers. Issues purchase orders that reflect negotiated price, schedule, terms, and conditions. Maintains accurate lead times.
  4. Evaluates bids for standard and non-standard items. Selects suppliers for moderately complex or technical materials, supplies, or services, and negotiates price, delivery, quality, and service. Develops alternate sources of supply.
  5. Monitors and evaluates supplier performance. Advises on potential supplier failure and resolves shipment quality discrepancies. Facilitates inspections and standardization efforts.
  6. Negotiates and settles damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, over-shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes.
  7. Prepares reports by analyzing and summarizing information and trends. Provides parts, equipment, and materials information as needed.
  8. Applies continuous improvement techniques to internal processes to increase efficiency, customer service, and reduce costs.
  9. Maintains professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and professional associations.
  10. Ensures compliance with regulations and company policies, advising management accordingly.
  11. Shares knowledge, represents the company on projects, mentors new employees, and contributes to team efforts, including cross-functional projects.
  12. Experience with ITAR, FAR procurement practices, price analysis, and compliance desired.
  13. Possesses excellent technical writing skills for documenting market research, cost analysis, and engineering memos.
  14. Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing and defense environment preferred.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience. Typically two or more years of responsible purchasing experience. CPM or APICS certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, industry practices, legal requirements, and continuous improvement techniques. Proficiency in business software and procurement systems. Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and team skills.

Physical and Mental Demands

Sitting, using hands for computer work, talking, and hearing. Occasional standing and walking. Vision requirements include close vision. May require overnight travel. Must maintain professional conduct and manage multiple tasks.

Additional Information: Salary range approximately $82,500 to $110,000, based on experience and market factors. Equal Opportunity Employer. Compliance with export and government contracting laws. Drug testing required for employment.
