Qualifications

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer to join an innovative organization within the agricultural biotechnology industry. The Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer will play a critical role in bridging business operations and technology, partnering directly with commercial and operational leaders to design, build, and optimize software applications, ERP solutions, and system integrations that drive business growth and efficiency. This is a hybrid position based primarily in Durham, NC, with a strong preference for onsite collaboration alongside key business stakeholders.

Responsibilities of the Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer:

• Partner with commercial and operations teams to understand business processes and translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Design and develop full-stack applications, including backend services, databases, APIs, and user-facing interfaces.
• Configure, extend, and integrate ERP and SaaS platforms, including NetSuite and connected business systems.
• Evaluate and lead build-versus-buy decisions while balancing stakeholder priorities and business objectives.
• Mentor engineers, drive technical best practices, and leverage AI-driven tools to accelerate software delivery and innovation.

Qualifications of the Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or business systems development with full-stack expertise.
• Hands-on experience configuring, extending, or integrating ERP/SaaS platforms such as NetSuite, Salesforce, SAP, or similar systems.
• Experience designing system integrations, APIs, data pipelines, and scalable business applications.
• Strong communication skills with a proven ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders, negotiate priorities, and drive adoption of technology solutions.

Compensation for the Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer includes:

• Salary range: $115,000 - $150,000 annually
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, HSA/FSA, 401(k), PTO, and holidays.
• Hybrid work environment in Durham, NC.
