Compensation: Hourly base pay rate is $29.09 – $43.61/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission and/or an incentive program.
Primary Duties / Key Responsibilities
- Formulate, mix, and apply properly mixed and dispensed automotive refinish materials to vehicle surfaces and sub-assemblies using spray-painting equipment, power tools, and other duties as assigned such as minor body repairs.
- Perform advanced refinishing procedures such as multi-stage systems, two-tone, and stripe jobs.
- Assist Shop Paint Technicians I and II with refinishing and continue to learn additional advanced refinishing skills.
- Provide troubleshooting support, including color match and paint imperfections, and perform advanced refinish troubleshooting and triage of complex refinishing tasks.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
- Communicate with Shop Manager and support team regarding RO findings and notes.
- Perform minor adjustments and body repairs on various truck and trailer equipment and inspect panels for defects.
- Clean and maintain all paint formulation and spray application equipment and paint/storage areas.
- Support the Shop Paint Technician I in obtaining correct materials for each job and ensure adequate supply of refinished products.
Education / Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of experience in a related field.
- Alternative combinations: any level degree or certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline with 3 years of experience, or 7 years of experience in a related field.
- Possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications: T8 (PMI) within 18 months, B2 (Painting and Refinishing), B3 (Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair), and B5 (Mechanical and Electrical).
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Paint Technician on medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair or equivalent combination of technical education, certifications, skill, and experience.
- Associate’s Degree, BA/BS, or Technical certification with up to 2 years of experience also acceptable.

- Knowledge of various paint equipment and paint systems, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of delivering information succinctly and organized.
- Effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.
- Logical reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, and to make recommendations.
- Understand implications of new information for current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
