Job summary

Warner Bros. Discovery seeks a Senior Engineer for its Broadcast IT engineering division in New York. You will lead incident response, service requests, and preventative maintenance for live productions, REMI, AR/VR, and cloud tech in a SMPTE 2110 native facility. Expect on-call rotations and occasional travel between WBD sites.

You will guide staff, document workflows, and coordinate with vendors to ensure technical success of events and platform reliability.

Qualifications

  • A four-year engineering degree (or equivalent) in live broadcast engineering.
  • 5+ years of live production engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of television maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrates mentorship and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of SMPTE 2110 standards.
  • Experience in design and implementation of broadcast facility technology.

Job description

Your New Role

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Senior Engineer for our Broadcast IT engineering department during live productions as well as provide guidance to team members for day‑to‑day operations. This includes incident response, service requests, diagnosing systemic problems, scheduling preventative maintenance, and training.

The areas of responsibility cover studios, production control rooms, record and playout servers, augmented and virtual reality systems, remote production (REMI), artificial intelligence, and cloud technologies in a state‑of‑the‑art SMPTE 2110 native facility for linear and OTT streaming services.

This role requires proven leadership, organizational processes, technical depth, and operational knowledge. Flexibility in shift work and participation in an on‑call rotation outside the production schedule are expected. Occasional travel between WBD sites may be required.

Accountabilities
  • Senior engineer responsible for the technical success of WBD live and taped events.
  • On‑site Engineer‑in‑Charge for broadcast productions such as CNN’s prime time lineup, Bleacher Report live productions, Food Network taped productions, and other news, entertainment and sporting events.
  • Technology point person for studio and production control room productions.
  • Provide tier 2 support, including troubleshooting of wiring for studio cameras, set monitors, audio, lighting, and Ethernet connections on set or in production spaces.
  • Staff knowledge sharing – provide technical oversight, coach and mentor entry‑level staff.
  • Effectively communicate department directives to staff in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Document equipment inventory, status, and workflows.
  • Customer service – work closely with partners to satisfy their needs and requests; serve as liaison between Engineering Leads, staff, and customers.
  • Execute the development, testing, and implementation of new systems, software, and equipment.
  • Create and maintain documentation; follow up with appropriate parties to ensure resolution.
  • Coordinate with production technology vendors to determine the need for system repairs or upgrades.
Qualifications & Experiences
  • A four‑year engineering degree (or equivalent work experience in live broadcast engineering).
  • 5+ years of live production engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of television maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrates mentorship and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of SMPTE 2110 Standards.
  • Experience in design and implementation of broadcast facility technology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of intercom systems used in production environments.
  • Understanding of Evertz routing systems and Magnum Control.
  • CCNA certification or networking background.
  • Cloud technologies.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $82,613.00 – $153,425.00 salary per year.

Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards.
