Job summary

The Judge Group is seeking a Senior Backup Engineer to design, implement, and automate backup, cyber recovery, and data protection across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments. The role leads cyber resiliency initiatives and IaC automation using Terraform, with strong emphasis on immutable backups and recovery validation.

You will design and manage backup for physical, virtual, cloud, and container workloads, support air-gapped cyber recovery environments, and drive CI/CD integrated automation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/IT/Engineering.
• 8+ years of enterprise backup engineering experience.
• 5+ years designing and implementing enterprise backup architectures.
• Experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure and cyber resiliency principles.
• Experience with one or more backup platforms (Cohesity, Dell PowerProtect, Rubrik, Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup).
• Proficiency with Terraform, Git-based workflows, and CI/CD practices.
• Proficiency with PowerShell, Python, Bash, REST APIs, and JSON/YAML.
• Experience with Windows Server, Linux (RHEL preferred), and VMware ESXi.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions for physical, virtual, cloud, and containerized workloads.
• Architect and support immutable, air-gapped, and cyber recovery environments to strengthen ransomware resilience.
• Develop IaC solutions using Terraform and integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines.
• Build and maintain automated backup deployment, validation, and recovery testing frameworks.
• Lead recovery exercises, including backup restores, VM, database, file system, and cloud workload recovery.
• Support backup solutions across AWS, Azure, VMware, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and on-premises platforms.
• Establish engineering standards, optimize platform performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to cross-functional teams.

About the Role

A leading enterprise organization is seeking a Senior Backup Engineer to design, implement, and automate backup, cyber recovery, and data protection solutions across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. This role will lead initiatives focused on cyber resiliency, infrastructure automation, immutable backup architectures, and recovery validation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience supporting large-scale or highly regulated environments.
• Experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure and cyber resiliency principles.
• Experience with one or more backup platforms such as Cohesity, Dell PowerProtect, Rubrik, Veeam, Commvault, or Veritas NetBackup.
• Experience with Terraform, Git-based workflows, and CI/CD practices.
• Proficiency in PowerShell, Python, Bash, REST APIs, and JSON/YAML.
• Experience with Windows Server, Linux (RHEL preferred), and VMware ESXi.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing enterprise cyber recovery and ransomware resilience solutions.
• Knowledge of NIST cybersecurity frameworks and recovery best practices.
• Experience integrating backup platforms with monitoring, observability, and security tools.
• Familiarity with enterprise storage platforms, including Dell, NetApp, or Pure Storage solutions.
• Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries.
• Relevant certifications in AWS, Azure, VMware, Terraform, or enterprise backup technologies.
