Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services in Plano, TX seeks a seasoned software engineer to design and implement cloud-native Java applications. You will build scalable services with AWS, embrace event-driven patterns, and ensure security, reliability, and performance across distributed systems.

Key duties include translating requirements into low-level designs, producing interface contracts, and guiding junior engineers through modern DevOps practices and CI/CD workflows.

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and object-oriented design.
  • Experience designing and building cloud-native applications.
  • Practical experience with AWS services and architecture.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging platforms such as SQS, SNS, Kafka, or EventBridge.
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with microservices or distributed service-oriented systems.
  • Experience with Docker and container-based development.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices including testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to define detailed design and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Familiarity with security best practices, IAM, encryption, and secrets management.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define detailed technical design.
  • Translate business and architecture requirements into clear, implementable low-level designs.
  • Produce design documentation, interface contracts, and technical estimates.
  • Design and develop cloud-native applications.
  • Build scalable, resilient, and maintainable services using Java and AWS.
  • Apply modern architecture patterns for distributed systems and enterprise platforms.
  • Develop event-driven and API-based solutions.
  • Design and implement asynchronous workflows using event-driven architecture.
  • Build secure, well-documented APIs and service integrations.
  • Work with serverless and containerized workloads.
  • Develop solutions using AWS Lambda, containers, and orchestration platforms such as ECS or EKS.
  • Choose the right runtime model based on performance, scale, and cost considerations.
  • Implement distributed system best practices.
  • Ensure reliability, fault tolerance, observability, and scalability.
  • Address retries, idempotency, latency, and consistency.
  • Collaborate across teams and roles.
  • Partner with architects, product managers, and technical team members to shape technical solutions.
  • Contribute to design reviews and key design decision-making.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance engineer to plan, develop, automate, and execute software testing.
  • Follow engineering best practices.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Leverage available AI based coding tools.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and release processes.
  • Support application performance and operations.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production systems.
  • Investigate defects, incidents, and performance issues with support and operations teams.
  • Ensure security and compliance.
  • Follow secure coding practices and cloud security standards.
  • Apply least-privilege access, secrets management, and data protection controls.
  • Mentor and guide team members.
  • Share technical knowledge and support junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Help raise the overall engineering quality of the team.

Salary Range

$130,000 to $150,000 per year
