Job summary

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking a remote Senior Avionics Safety Engineer to lead safety analyses and ensure compliance with ARP4761 across aircraft systems. You will mentor junior engineers, review safety-related designs, and collaborate with global teams to shape safety strategies early in development.

Ideal candidates bring extensive aircraft safety experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to influence across engineering disciplines while delivering robust safety

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
• Experience in aircraft systems, hardware, or software engineering

Responsibilities

• Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761, including FHAs, PSSAs, SSAs, FTAs, CMAs.
• Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity.
• Review design and development documentation for safety-critical equipment.
• Review analyses of peer safety engineers.
• Mentor and train less experienced safety engineers.
• Accountable to team members and leadership for committed work and responsibilities.
• Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology).
• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans.
• Be a recognized technical expert in avionics safety.

What You Will Do:

• Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761. Including (but not limited to): Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs)Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), Common Mode Analyses (CMAs)
• Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity
• Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment
• Review analysis of peer safety engineers
• Mentor and train less experienced safety engineers
• Accountable to team members and organizational leadership for committed work and responsibilities

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
• Experience in aircraft systems, hardware, or software engineering

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools
• Working knowledge of ARP4761
• Basic knowledge of ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297
• Experience preparing and presenting technical information to peers, to all levels of internal management, and to external customers
• Verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and presenting to peers, leadership, and customers
• Experience coordinating projects and complex engineering activities
• Basic knowledge
• Experience in reliability engineering theory

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
