Rocky Mountain Steel Mills in Pueblo, CO is seeking a Senior Automation & Electrical Engineer to improve availability, reliability, and utilization of electrical and automation systems across steelmaking, rolling mill, and maintenance operations.

The role involves leading design, commissioning, and optimization of Rockwell automation platforms, drives, and related equipment, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement in a highly automated environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering or Automated Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in electrical and automation engineering in heavy industry.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead technical resource for automation and electrical systems in a highly automated steel manufacturing environment.
  • Lead design, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, and automation systems (Rockwell focus).
  • Oversee commissioning, startup, maintenance, and performance optimization of drives and motor control systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement to safety, quality, throughput, and energy efficiency.
  • Develop control strategies and KPIs; integrate plant automation with MES/BI systems.
  • Lead issue resolution and provide sustainable solutions; manage projects and mentoring.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide leadership during emergencies.

As a key member of the maintenance organization, this role is responsible for improving the availability, reliability, and utilization of electrical and automation systems to support the production and shipment of high-quality steel products. The Senior Automation & Electrical Engineer will develop and implement innovative solutions to enhance steel manufacturing processes, optimize equipment performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This position collaborates closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and other plant departments to identify opportunities for improvement, resolve technical challenges, and ensure safe, efficient, and consistent operations.
