Sr Associate Software Engineer

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will contribute to the design, development, implementation, integration, and ongoing support of scalable software, data, and automation solutions that meet R&D Commercialization business needs and advance Amgen’s mission to serve patients.

Working closely with product managers, analysts, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders, the Senior Associate Software Engineer translates business and technical requirements into secure, reliable, maintainable, and scalable solutions. The role contributes throughout the software development lifecycle, including solution design, development, configuration, testing, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and production support.

The Senior Associate Software Engineer independently delivers moderately complex technical work and owns assigned applications, solutions, or workstreams from design through production support. The engineer contributes to software-engineering standards, code quality, DevOps automation, system observability, operational reliability, technical documentation, and continuous improvement. Depending on business needs, work may span application development, data engineering, APIs and system integrations, cloud and container platforms, workflow automation, low-code solutions, and AI-enabled capabilities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, configure, test, deploy, and support scalable enterprise software applications, platform capabilities, APIs, integrations, interfaces, reports, and automation solutions
  • Own the technical implementation of assigned user stories and workstreams in collaboration with product managers, analysts, architects, engineers, and other technical team members
  • Analyze business, functional, and technical requirements and translate them into technical designs, implementation tasks, data flows, integration patterns, and testable acceptance criteria
  • Develop production-ready applications, services, and automation solutions using Python, SQL, and other approved programming, scripting, workflow, and low-code technologies
  • Design, develop, and support data pipelines, transformations, integrations, and data-quality controls using technologies such as Python, SQL, PySpark, Databricks, and APIs
  • Develop and maintain APIs, web services, microservices, event-driven solutions, and enterprise application integrations
  • Contribute to front-end and back-end development using Amgen-preferred frameworks, platforms, and development tools
  • Build and deploy containerized solutions using Docker, Kubernetes platforms managed through Rafay, and applicable AWS container services such as ECR, EKS, ECS, or Fargate
  • Support DevOps and continuous-delivery practices, including source control, automated builds, CI/CD pipelines, release coordination, environment management, infrastructure automation, and deployment validation
  • Develop and maintain unit, integration, regression, and automated tests to improve solution quality and reduce recurring defects
  • Participate in peer reviews, code reviews, and technical design reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to established engineering standards
  • Monitor application, integration, and data-pipeline health using logging, alerting, and observability tools
  • Troubleshoot production incidents, software defects, integration failures, data issues, and performance problems; perform root-cause analysis and implement durable corrective actions
  • Manage or support application secrets, certificates, authentication, authorization, identity integrations, and other application security controls
  • Apply secure coding, access-control, data-protection, vulnerability-management, and applicable Amgen quality and compliance requirements throughout the software lifecycle
  • Rapidly develop prototypes and proofs of concept to evaluate technologies, demonstrate proposed solutions, and validate technical approaches
  • Create and maintain architecture diagrams, technical designs, API and integration specifications, configuration documentation, deployment procedures, operational runbooks, and support materials
  • Identify technical risks, delivery constraints, security concerns, and cross-system dependencies, escalating issues when broader architectural or leadership support is required
  • Participate actively in Agile or Scrum ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, estimation, demonstrations, retrospectives, and continuous-improvement activities
  • Share technical knowledge and provide guidance to team members on assigned technologies, applications, and engineering practices
  • Responsibly use approved AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, testing, documentation, and code quality
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate AI-enabled capabilities into business applications, automation solutions, and internal developer tools while complying with security, privacy, and quality requirements
