Job summary

Amgen seeks an Associate Director, Information Systems to lead strategy, delivery, and evolution of a portfolio supporting Commercial Operations, including Pricing Intelligence and AI capabilities. You will partner with business leaders, engineering teams, and product teams to define strategic roadmaps and deliver scalable technology solutions.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate, Master’s, Bachelor’s, or Associate degree with 3+ years of Information Systems leadership experience.

  • Experience in SAFe/Agile product delivery and cross-functional collaboration.

Associate Director, Information Systems
What you will do

In this vital role, you will serve as the technology leader responsible for the strategy, delivery, and continuous evolution of a portfolio of products supporting Amgen's Value and Access organization, including Coverage Pricing Intelligence, CapAI, and Pricing capabilities. You will partner closely with business leaders, engineering teams, architects, and product teams to define strategic roadmaps and deliver scalable technology solutions that enable Commercial Operations and accelerate business outcomes.

The primary objective of this role is to translate business strategy into innovative technology capabilities while ensuring delivery excellence, operational stability, and measurable business value. You will lead multiple cross-functional Agile teams, drive innovation, strengthen partnerships across business and technology organizations, and continuously evolve products that support Amgen's digital transformation.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technology leader for agile teams supporting Coverage Pricing Intelligence, CapAI, and Pricing capabilities, ensuring delivery aligns with business strategy, product vision, and organizational priorities.
  • Define, own, and execute the strategic product roadmap and investment priorities for the product portfolio by translating business objectives into prioritized capabilities, release plans, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Build strong partnerships with business leaders, engineering teams, enterprise architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities and deliver scalable, sustainable technology solutions.
  • Lead product execution by driving PI Planning, backlog refinement, sprint planning, release planning, and dependency management to ensure successful delivery against committed objectives.
  • Establish and monitor OKRs and delivery performance metrics, including predictability, flow, productivity, Spec-Driven Development (SDD), product adoption, operational health, and business value realization.
  • Apply data-driven decision making to prioritize investments, measure product performance, identify improvement opportunities, and continuously enhance product capabilities and customer experience.
  • Drive AI and advanced analytics initiatives by identifying opportunities to leverage modern data platforms, machine learning, Generative AI, and emerging technologies to improve business processes and accelerate decision making.
  • Provide leadership for platform operations, including production support, incident management - Live Narrative adoption & root cause analysis, timely closure of corrective actions, and continuous operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver scalable cloud-based data and AI solutions that are secure, resilient, and aligned with enterprise architecture, data governance, and compliance standards.
  • Lead, coach, and develop cross-functional team members while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on continuous learning, accountability, and customer value.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 3 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Master’s degree and 7 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Associate’s degree and 12 years of Information Systems experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 14 years of Information Systems experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading enterprise technology products or platforms supporting analytics, pricing, commercial operations, business intelligence, or AI-enabled business capabilities.
  • Strong technical understanding of modern data and analytics platforms, including Databricks, Python, SQL, Apache Spark, cloud-native data engineering architectures, and scalable data pipelines.
  • Experience delivering scalable cloud-based technology solutions on AWS, including analytics platforms, data pipelines, machine learning workloads, application security, and operational monitoring.
  • Experience delivering data science, machine learning, and AI-powered products from concept through production deployment, business adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, prompt engineering, model orchestration, evaluation frameworks, and responsible AI practices.
  • Experience managing the complete product lifecycle, including product strategy, roadmap development, prioritization, delivery, platform operations, adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into product strategies, investment recommendations, and measurable business outcomes for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary product teams consisting of Product Owners, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Architects, Business Analysts, and Quality Engineers.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture, governance, security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, preferably within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Technical fluency to evaluate solution designs, guide architectural decisions, identify delivery risks, and effectively partner with engineering organizations without requiring day-to-day hands-on software development.
  • Proven ability to influence business and technology stakeholders, build trusted partnerships, and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in Agile product organizations using SAFe methodologies and driving continuous improvement across product delivery teams.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
