Job summary

Rowan Digital Infrastructure in Denver, CO is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support data center design and construction from site origination through facility operations. The role requires hands-on field experience with HVAC/Plumbing and collaboration across design managers, engineers, and suppliers.

You will help coordinate MEP requirements, review submittals and RFIs, and contribute to performance modeling for cooling strategies.

Qualifications

• Accredited bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with field experience in data centers.
• EIT certification or sustainable design accreditation preferred.
• Hands-on experience with construction activities in the field and strong knowledge of HVAC and Plumbing best practices.

Responsibilities

• Support design managers and MEP engineers in the design, permitting, and coordination of construction drawings for data center cooling.
• Coordinate and ensure MEP requirements are evaluated and incorporated on a project-by-project basis.
• Experience with data center cooling strategies, including air-cooled and liquid-cooled solutions.
• Provide on-site field support during construction, ensuring adherence to design specifications and standards.
• Collaborate with design and construction teams to address site challenges and optimize constructability.
• Assist in preparation of CDs, drawings, specs, and performance modeling for projects.
• Review contractor submittals and RFIs to ensure Rowan standards are met.
• Identify risks across the project lifecycle from origination to operations.
• Support other technical tasks as needed.

Role Summary

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to provide support across the Rowan data center project portfolio. This position is a critical part of the technical team that will help support all aspects of the data center design and construction from site origination through facility operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully providing both design and field level engineering support for data center, semi-conductor, or similar complex industries. The successful candidate will have excellent strategic thinking skills, a customer service orientation, excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to multitask, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Experience with BMS controls design is highly valued for this position, but not required.

Travel:

Ability to travel up to (25%) for company gatherings, meetings, or to project sites.

Compensation:

$108,313 - $125,000 (Offers Bonus)

Essential Responsibilities

• Support Rowan Design Managers and MEP engineering consultants in the design, permitting, and coordination of construction drawings, specifically in the mechanical, plumbing, and controls for data center cooling disciplines. Expertise is not needed in all areas, but a general knowledge of all areas from a design and construction perspective is necessary.

• Coordinate and ensure MEP engineering related Customer design requirements are evaluated and incorporated on a project-by-project basis.

• Experience with data center cooling strategies, including air-cooled and liquid-cooled solutions within the white space to help guide the design and support customer requirements.

• Provide on-site field support as needed during construction, ensuring that MEP engineering work is executed according to design specifications and standards.

• Collaborate with the design and construction teams to address site-specific challenges and make recommendations to optimize designs for constructability.

• Support third party design engineers and consultants in the preparation of construction documents (CDs), including drawings, specifications, and performance modeling.

• As needed, review contractor work, submittals, and RFIs to ensure that MEP engineering elements adhere to Rowan's standards of quality and project requirements.

• Identify risks during all stages of the project lifecycle from site origination through operations.

• Support other technical tasks not listed as required.

Education, Skills, and Experience

• Accredited bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Other related fields may be considered. EIT and/or sustainable design accreditation preferred.

• 3+ years of experience participating in data center (or similar complex industrial) MEP design, with preference for experience in data center critical cooling systems.

• Hands-on experience with construction activities in the field with strong knowledge of HVAC and Plumbing best practices, safety standards, and quality control procedures.

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Procore, AutoDesk Forma, and Blue Beam Revu. Familiarity with CFD software such as Star-CCM or SixSigma preferred.

• Knowledge of MEP design, control, communication, BMS/EMS, and construction practices and processes required

• Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines

• Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing

• Knowledge of data center industry and trends preferred.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, and highly cross-functional environment.

• Ability to work with little oversight. The Rowan team collaborates constantly; however, the successful candidate should be comfortable working independently.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (business, construction management, real estate) and at least five (5) years of experience in project management in the data center or real estate industry.
