SUMMARY:

The Senior Associate Director, Lead, Estate & Gift Planning identifies, cultivates, and solicits planned gifts for The Carter Center. Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, this role develops strategies, manages donor relations, drafts correspondence, and oversees events and budgets. The position involves working with various stakeholders and providing direction to the Legacy Circle recognition society. It requires significant donor interaction, staff supervision, and occasional travel, including Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Senior Associate Director of Development, Lead reports to the Director, Development and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for marketing new and existing programs of The Carter Center.
  • Working with the Director, Development and other Development staff, this position manages fundraising for a portfolio of domestic and international projects, which requires significant short and long-term donor funding.
  • Donors include foundations, corporations, governments (foreign and U.S.), and multilateral organizations, as well as individuals. Writes and ensures the submission of timely and compelling proposals and complex narrative and financial reports, working with staff across the Center.
  • Interacts with donors, making and responding to inquiries. Supervises a team of development staff who are responsible for fundraising and grants management for select Carter Center projects, and designs strategies and sets implementation goals and objectives for the team.
  • Assists the Director, Development in the annual plan and budgeting process for the Development Department and works with select senior Program staff to develop short and long-term resource mobilization strategies associated with select budgets.
  • Serves as a liaison with senior staff of other Development departments (Individual Giving, Stewardship, Events, Annual Fund, Major Gifts, Leadership Gifts, Direct Mail/Marketing and Planned Giving).
  • Designs and leads fundraising trips with program directors and staff. Domestic and international travel is required.
  • Due to the travel locations, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) will be required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree
  • Eight years of experience in fundraising, development, higher education, or related field, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of ten years in fundraising for a non-profit organization.
  • Five years planned giving experience.
  • Demonstrated donor-centric focus.
  • Must have a solid understanding of program budget development and financial reporting, as well as experience collaborating with program and finance staff.
  • Experience closing gifts at all levels including Annual Fund, Major Gifts, Leadership Gifts, and Planned Gifts.
  • Awareness of trends in philanthropy, planned giving, and up to date on global affairs.
  • Strong travel and event planning experience.
  • Experience working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as effective presentation skills.
  • Excellent project management skills – ability to lead on multi-functional projects, manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities and competing demands, and adapt to frequent and unexpected changes.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines. All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia.
