About the role

The Sr Associate Court Attorney represents clients in any immigrations courts in the USA and will support their appearance by also reviewing and editing immigration court filings, drafting pleadings, evidence packets, reviewing applications, and supporting clients in evidence collection.

As Sr Associate Court Attorney, you will also work closely with the Supervising Court Attorney in developing training and processes as well as mentoring team members.

What you'll do

  • Draft and file motions, briefs, pleadings, applications, evidence and other court-related documents.
  • Provide court appearances
  • Help prepare clients for hearings
  • Review client intakes and determine court strategies
  • Appear for master and individual calendar hearings
  • Oversee communication with clients regarding cases
  • Provide strategic insight and additional thoughts on case process
  • Provide mentorship to attorney and non-attorney team members
  • Develop training related to our work for the attorney and non-attorney teams.

Qualifications

  • JD and a member in good standing of any bar.
  • Minimum 5 years immigration experience with asylum or cancellation of removal preferred. 5 years immigration court experience preferred.
  • Experience appearing before and filing with US Immigration Court system - including ECAS – and with EOIR rules for formatting and filing
  • Experience drafting pleadings, brief and motions for use in immigration court proceedings, including asylum applications, EOIR 42B applications, application for cancellation of removal, motions for prosecutorial discretion, to reopen, to terminate proceedings, to reconsider, to reopen in absentia orders, and various pre-trial motions (continue, change venue, substitute or withdraw counsel, accept untimely filing, stay removal or deportation, etc.)
  • Experience interacting with governmental agencies and court clerks
  • Deep immigration knowledge and experience Asylum and Cancellation of Removal is strongly preferred. Detention experience is a plus!
