Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible legal experience in City or related government law.
  • Possession of a license from the Supreme Court of Texas to practice

Responsibilities

  • Providing advice and guidance regarding employment and disciplinary matters, and the interpretation and application of state civil service statutes, City personnel rules and procedures, and labor agreements.
  • Responding to state and federal administrative charges of employment discrimination, labor contract grievances, and disciplinary appeals.
  • Processing public information requests in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act.
  • Reviewing and recommending changes to personnel policies and procedures.
  • Performing other legal tasks, including advising City labor negotiators, responding to subpoenas and reviewing and commenting on pending legislation.
  • Advising City boards and commissions, and providing other legal research and legal advice to the City staff on a variety of matters as assigned

The Fort Worth City Attorney's Office is a collegial team of legal professionals providing excellent legal service to the City of Fort Worth. This position, Sr. Assistant City Attorney, would be assigned to the Employment Advising Division where they would be responsible for advising City Departments on employment related matters.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible legal experience in City or related government law
  • Possession of a license from the Supreme Court of Texas to practice

  • Human Resources or labor law experience
  • Texas Public Information Act experience
  • Public entity employment-related litigation and administrative matters experience
  • Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143 Civil Service experience
The Senior Assistant City Attorney Job Responsibilities Include

Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class
